October 10, 2021

While we are unable to have our traditional parade on campus with families and friends, we will do something fun for the students. We will have a Halloween Parade for students on October 29! Students will wear their costumes to school and parade around our field for parents to watch through the perimeter of the outside gate. Please have your child wear clothing under their costumes so they can easily change out of the costume if they'd like. More information to come later.

Oster's New Social Emotional Curriculum

This year our school is excited to implement a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum called Kimochi's (TK-2nd) and Second Step (3rd-5th). In the spring, the district provided funding for all of our school sites to purchase SEL materials. We chose Kimochi's and Second Step because they matched our school goals of promoting a collaborative school environment, implementing a common language among students at our site, and teaching students how to name their feelings and strategies to cope with their emotions. For more information on our curriculum, please join our upcoming parent education night and visit Kimochis and Second Step websites: Kimochi Parent Resources.

Second Step: Elementary Program

Kimochis Features Include:

  • Helping kids feel happy, safe, confident, compassionate, and successful.

  • Helping kids establish and sustain strong friendships.

  • Helping kids get along with each other.

  • Helping kids become resilient, especially during these trying times."

Second Step Features Include:

  • Growth mindset

  • Goal Setting

  • Emotion Management

  • Empathy and Kindness

  • Problem solving

Parent Education Opportunities

Join us for a parent evening to learn more about Kimochi's. Kimochi's allow us to help teach our students how to become more resilient and learn coping skills to successfully cope with the challenges in life.

Please join us on October 26th from 6:00-7:00 p.m. for an informative evening to learn more about how we are using Kimochi's and how you can support your child at home. The evening will be lead by the amazing Yonit Parenti M.S, P.P.S.

Oster Is Still In Need Of Parent Helpers During Lunch Time!

Oster needs more parent support during lunch. We need to increase our noon duty supervision staff to ensure all of our students have proper supervision when eating and playing during lunch. If you are available from 11:15 to 12:55 one or more days per week or want more information about the open position, please send an email to Ellen Mace at macee@unionsd.org

Lunch Duty Volunteers are so important, and our teachers appreciate your time so much! Thank you.
