A Note from the Principal
What a wonderful week of learning and celebrations we have had this week.
It has been fantastic to see so many parents, family members and community members come to classrooms to talk about what they do as a job. Students have really been given an insight into many different careers. It is important, as teachers and parents, we have discussions with our children around being aspirational.
Glen Pearsall – Pupil Free Day
On Wednesday all teachers across our network participated in a professional learning day with Glen Pearsall. Throughout the day we learnt strategies to increase student engagement in our classrooms. Staff explored strategic questioning, cold calling, question relay, inverted questioning and more in order to positively effect student engagement and ultimately student outcomes. Please have a conversation with your child’s teacher if you wish to know more about the strategies and techniques we now have in our teaching tool kit. On the same day our ES staff attended a very informative Professional Development day on Autism.
On Monday Mrs Gellert, Ms Bennet and I will be attending the second day of our Leading Literacy course where we will discuss literacy assessment. I look forward to relaying the knowledge we gain to all staff at HPS.
2020 Prep Open Night – Wednesday 29 May 6.00pm-6.30pm
On Wednesday next week we are having an open night for 2020 Preps. If you have neighbours, friends, family or people you know that have a child that will be starting Prep next year please encourage them to attend.
Cross Country
Congratulations to all the HPS students who represented our school at the District Cross Country yesterday. Mr Kent was excited telling me about the amazing resilience of our students and their ability to find that GRIT that is in all of us. Good luck to the students who move to the Division Level. Training with Mr Kent and Mr Gamble begins soon.
Democracy Sizzle
Thank you to all the parents, families and friends who helped last Saturday to cook sausages at the High School Federal Election Polling booth. We raised over $500 which will be directed towards our sustainability program, including our chook pen.
Saturday 8 June is our Bunnings BBQ. We need many helpers on that day. Please contact the school office if you are able to assist. The funds raised will be used to purchase some much needed new library books.
