William Marbury and several others were appointed to government posts on the last days of John Adams presidency. These last minutes appointments were never finalized. The appointees sue for their jobs in the supreme court.


The court ruled that it was unfair of Thomas Jefferson to prevent William Marbury from taking office. They also said that the court had no jurisdiction to make Jefferson give Marbury the seat. The court was unable to grant it because of section 13 of the judiciary act of 1789.
