7 Habits of Happy Kids

Jellybean Jamboree

K-1 students have been learning about emotions, self-control and positive behaviors through our Jellybean Jamboree curriculum! Each week we've met a new jellybean freind that needs our help in some way. Check out our jellybean friends below and be sure to ask your K-1 student about them. They just LOVED helping our jellybean freinds learn new things this year!

Students in all grade levels learned how it feels to be excluded and why it is important to include others. We also discussed a special bench that we have on each of our playgrounds to make sure that no one ever feels excluded at recess. Ask your student(s) about the Buddy Bench and how to use it!

Minute Meetings

We had our second round of minute meetings in March/April. Minute Meetings are brief 1-2 minute conversations that allow us to check in with ALL students. While the class works on independent activities in guidance, the school counselor meets with individual students to discuss the school year and any conerns that they may have going into the summer or the next school year. We love getting to meet one-on-one and have conversations with EVERY student at OPES!

Minute Meetings occur 2x per year. Once is the Fall and once in the Spring.

Upcoming Lessons

* Personal Safety

* Test Preparation

* Stress/Relaxation Techniques

* Career Exploration

OPES Great Kindness Challenge

Monday, April 18th, 7am to Thursday, April 21st, 2:30pm

474 3rd Baxter Street

Fort Mill, SC

Mark your calendars – The Great Kindness Challenge (GKC) is coming to OPES April 18-21! The GKC was created by Kids for Peace to provide schools a tool for creating a positive school environment. In 2015, 2 million students participated and performed over 100 million acts of kindness nationwide. During the GKC, all students will be challenged to perform as many acts of kindness as possible! The creators of the GKC firmly believe that all kids deserve to learn in a safe, supportive and dynamic environment. The Great Kindness Challenge provides a powerful tool that actively engages students, teachers, administration, families and community in creating a school culture of acceptance, tolerance, unity and respect. Simply put, we believe that KINDNESS is strength and has the power to change the world for GOOD! We have several exciting and fun activities planned for the week! To learn more about the Great Kindness Challenge check out this video. We’ll be sharing more information soon!
