Lenape M. S. Smoke Signals
September 17, 2013
Our major fundraiser for the year was successfully kicked off last week. This year we will be selling magazine subscriptions and cookie dough. Thank you for supporting this important event. Students may turn in their orders during homeroom on September 18, 25, and 27. There are many incentives for students to sell including being driven to lunch in a limousine, a celebration party, and many more rewards.
Our first parent council meeting of the year will be September 19 at 9:00 A.M. in the library. We look forward to seeing you there. Among the topics covered will be a review of the opening first weeks of school, Lenape’s PSSA and Keystone results, overview of Guidance Services and an introduction to Lenape’s building-wide theme of Random Acts of Kindness.
7th Grade Team Building
On September 13, the Explorer and Quest Teams participated in many team building exercises. Students worked collaboratively and effectively communicated to create solutions to various problems. Among the activities completed by the students included: building a tower using toothpicks and marshmallows, designing a rollercoaster using foam insulation, creating a wall of respect and constructing a birthday bar graph.
Student Council Executive Board Induction Ceremony
Congratulations to Jack T., President, Sreeram V., Vice President, Lauren M., Secretary, and Brendan M. Treasurer. These officers were officially sworn in during a school-wide Induction Ceremony.
Wall of Fame and Honor Dedication Ceremony
On September the 11th 2013, Lenape Middle School unveiled the Wall of Fame and Honor. This project first began in the fall of 2012 when Lenape was given a piece of the World Trade Center. A student committee was formed from the members of the Lenape Soul, History Corps, and Student Council to honor this piece of American history. After the committee created different designs one in particular stood out and was selected because it not only honored the memory of the events of September the 11th, but also pays respect to Lenape achievements and sacrifices. We applaud our student leaders who took part in the process in designing every aspect of the wall from selecting the American flag in the center, to the four pictures that surround the wall, to the five military seals that represent each branch of service that Lenape Alumni served.

The Boomerang Youth Recognition Award is a monthly program which recognizes and honors youth in our community for exemplifying and living by one of 9 chosen Developmental Assets (one asset for each month from Sept.-May). The 40 Developmental Assets (www.search-institute.org) are positive experiences, behaviors, and personal qualities that all youth need to possess, in order to be responsible, caring, and strong in the face of peer pressures and other life challenges.
A ballot box is located at Lenape Middle School or you can click the link below to fill out an online form. Youth can be nominated for the award by any member of the community. In fact, students can nominate themselves or their friends. Each school submits one student who best represents the chosen quality. A rotating committee of community “judges” which includes representatives from CB CARES,Outback Steakhouse, law enforcement, community nonprofits, local and state government, and local businesses, chooses one student (elementary, middle and, high school) from amongst the nominations. These district-wide winners receive a letter and certificate of recognition, a gift certificate from Outback Steakhouse in Jamison, their picture appears in the Bucks County Herald, and their name is engraved on a plaque at Outback. An end-of-the-year June luncheon, which includes all Boomerang Award recipients, their parents, and community judges, additionally serves as a celebration of this recognition. It should be noted that ALL students who have been nominated for this award receive a gift from CB CARES as an acknowledgement of this honor.
