Inspiring Excellence. Every Learner. Every Day.
A Note From the Principal
Here we are at the start of second semester. When I reflect on where we were one year ago, I don't think anyone could have imagined we would be in the position we find ourselves. Masks. Distance Learning. Hybrid Learning. Social Distancing. Last March, we were thrown into unchartered territory, and in three days, had to shift to Distance Learning. At the time, our students weren't 1:1 with computers, so that became our first priority. Then, we had to find a platform for teachers to use with students without spending time together to prepare them for that change. Last spring, we did very little "live" teaching; instead, teachers posted work for students to do, and we lost that personal connection. As we headed into this school year, we knew we wanted to do things in a different manner. At OMS, we opted for "live" classes during Distance Learning so students and teachers could keep that personal connection. While it hasn't been perfect, I think both sides enjoyed seeing and hearing from each other.
We know there have been frustrations. We also believe everyone is doing the best they can during trying times--students, families, and schools. To those of you who have reached out to ask clarifying questions or to raise concerns, I thank you. Direct communication gives us the best route to solving problems. We may not always agree on decisions being made, but please know that we are open to the dialogue. That is the only way we can get better at what we do. I can tell you this. I've been in education for 30 years--15 years as a teacher and 15 years as an administrator. I can honestly say I have never seen educators work as hard as they have had to in the past ten months, and I think the same could be said for families supporting their children during these trying times.
We had a guest speaker with us on Monday. One thing he said to us that resonated with me is this: Assume Positive Intent. Students, families, and educators are doing the best they can to navigate these circumstances. We thank you for your continued support and welcome the dialogue if you have concerns!

BE PREPARED EVERYDAY
Every student must bring their Chromebook and charger to school every day. Make sure your Chromebook is fully charged.
Teachers will be using these on a daily basis; it is crucial your child brings his/her computer to school every day!
MASKS
Students are required to come to school with masks each day they are here. While we have some masks as back-up, we regularly hand out 30+ masks each day. It is difficult for us to keep up with that number. PLEASE remind your child to bring his/her own mask to school for everyone's safety!
