Genre
The genre of Princess Academy is fantasy.
Literary Element: Protagonist
Young fourteen-year-old Miri was named after the flower that grew in her village on Mt Eskel. However, she did not feel like a beautiful flower. She was frail and not as pretty as her sister, Marda. To make things even worse, her mother died when she was born. However, one winter day, there was a twist to her life. The King's priest announced that the prince will choose a princess from the girls living in Mt Eskel. Miri imagined being the princess and living in a big castle, rather than her little house. Her life would be so different! The quote I chose tells how Miri, the protagonist, received her name and why there is not a mother in her family picture.
Quote:
"'I don't want my daughter named after a stone,' she had said, choosing instead to name her Miri after the flower that conquered rock and climbed to face the sun... A week later, her mother had died."
