Meet Your Mentors
I graduated from Georgia Southern University in 2001 with a degree in Health and Physical Education. Then I received my Master degree from the University of Alabama in Health Studies in 2004. From there, I went on to obtain my Specialist degree in Curriculum Instruction from Piedmont College. I have been teaching health and physical education for over 12 years. I have been with GAVS for 8 years. My passion lies with online learning. I am happily married and have one daughter named Avery Elizabeth. I enjoy running, photography, and spending time with friends and family.
I have been teaching for 16 years and have been with GaVS since 2006. I currently teach at Millcreek High School in Gwinnett County. I am from North Carolina, but now live in Dacula, Ga. I have a wonderful husband and two very energetic boys! I received my doctorate in Educational Leadership in 2009 and am living my dream life, teaching and spending time with my family.
I have been teaching high school, college, and bridge-to-college science since 1997 - with a 5 year break to focus on our 3 *busy* children (6 and under). This is my second year at GaVS and my tenth year as a high school teacher. I am proud to be a science nerd! I enjoy the perspective I gain from new students on how they understand/approach science, and the collaboration and inspiration that evolves from assisting new instructors.
After a career in accounting I went back to school to become a Spanish teacher. I worked in a face-to-face high school for 13 years, also working at Georgia Virtual for 4 of those years. I retired from the classroom in 2010, and have been with Georgia Virtual since. This was the best career move I have ever made. I love teaching online. I am also certified in AP Spanish, and Gifted Education.
