Jackson Family Weekly Update
January 1, 2023
Happy New Year
Welcome back! We hope you have enjoyed your Winter Break and are excited to return to school this week. Students will return to school on Wednesday, January 4.
As we enter into the final stretch of this school year, we encourage you to have your child at school and on time. Studies show that students who attend regularly, they are much more likely to read proficiently by third grade, do well in middle school and graduate. Students who miss 10% or more days of school each year, roughly 2 days per month are more at risk for academic difficulties, less likely to be proficient on the 3rd grade reading test, and ultimately are at greater risk of dropping out of school and not graduating. Students who arrive to school on time show increased confidence, self esteem, and positive academic progress.
In addition to student achievement, our school report card grade is dependent upon student attendance. We must have an Average Daily Attendance (ADA) of 95% or higher to receive points for student attendance. Our ADA for the first semester was 92.42%. Although, we want students who are sick to stay home, I would encourage you to strive to make appointments for early in the morning or after school and schedule vacations or trips for long weekends or other school breaks. The graphic below is a good outline for when to keep your students home if they are not feeling well.
If your child is hesitant to attend school, please reach out to your child's teacher, our school counselor, or Mrs. Huntley and me so we can work together to address your child's concerns and academic needs.
At this time of year, as we have gathered with family and friends for the holidays, we know that
the chance for illness is increased. Flu, the common cold, and RSV are on the rise and
COVID is still circulating in the community. NPS Health Services hopes to take some of
the worry about COVID away by offering FREE home COVID-19 tests to all NPS
students, staff and families. Test kits are available at all school locations in the front
office. We ask that any positive test results be reported to your student’s school or to
your supervisor.
By providing these tests, we hope to give you a little peace of mind during your time off.
For any questions, contact your school’s health professional or Kris Moody, NPS Health
Services COVID Coordinator, at 405-366-5939. Stay safe and be well!!
Additionally, IMMY Labs is expanding its free, drive-through testing services to include
Flu A and Flu B along with their current COVID-19 testing. Patients will receive results
for Flu A, Flu B and COVID-19 from a single nasal swab. More details on locations and
appointment times will be available at IMMYlabs.com.

PTA Meeting - January 10th - 6:10 PM - Jackson Cafeteria
Start the new year involved in your child's school. We would love to have you attend a PTA meeting. Our next meeting is Tuesday, January 10. You do not have to be a PTA member to attend.
Arrival and Dismissal
- Please do not drop off your children prior to 7:25 AM unless they are participating in a special club or event that meeting in the morning. There is no supervision for students prior to 7:25 AM.
- Please remember to call the office by 2:00 PM if you need to change your child's typical way they go home. This allows us time to notify teachers and students of any changes.
- Please pick your children up by 3:10 PM. Teachers are off contract at 3:10 and there is no one available to supervise your students after 3:10 PM.
Please leave all toys, including Pokemon cards & other trading cards, at home.
Second Step
We want your child to be successful in school and that means supporting and encouraging their whole development. While excelling in academic classes is important, children also need skills to take on learning challenges, make good decisions, manage strong emotions, and get along with others.
Please see below to learn more about what your child is learning next week and find guiding questions to assist with continuing the conversation at home. Families can also visit The Second Step Family Webpage to view full lessons and student handouts.
