STRONG MINDS, STRONG BODIES, BIG HEARTS - Mentes fuertes, cuerpos fuertes, corazones grandes
New Year Greeting
As we wrap up 2023, we have so much to look forward to in 2024. The new year provides a fresh start for many things. In January we will have our mid-year i-Ready Reading and Math assessments. These provide us a checkpoint on how our students’ skills are growing. January also gives us a chance to refocus on our learning and behavior expectations while working with students on setting goals for the second half of the school year.
We also begin to look forward to February, when Jefferson Elementary will be the School of the Month. That will be a wonderful opportunity for us to promote the work of our students, teachers, and families.
Wishing you a Wonderful Holiday Season and a Happy New Year!
Jesse Peters & Celina Alvin
No School
There will not be school on Monday January 15 or Monday January 22nd.
Progress Reports
Progress Reports will be mailed home towards the end of January.
Progress reports will be coming out this month. Use this opportunity to show pride in your child’s academic growth and to encourage your child to work hard.
Here are a few tips:
-Talk it over. Where your child did well, say “wow! You did great in math!” If the grade isn’t so good, ask “what are some things you can do to bring this up?”
-Set Goals. List each subject your child wants to do better in and then improvements he/she will aim for. Hang the goals in the kitchen or his/her room.
-Develop a plan. How can your child reach these goals? Write a plan for adjusting study habits. Include ways you, as parents, can help.
Parent/Teacher Conferences are coming in February
February 13th & 15th
Conferences provide important two way communication between parents and teachers. Combined with assessment data, parent/teacher conferences help provide a solid understanding of your child’s current school performance. Please make every effort to attend this important part of your child’s education.
COUGH DROPS AT SCHOOL
If your child is in need of cough drops at school, a medication consent form must be filled out by the parent. The child must bring the cough drops in the original package (no zip lock bags), labeled with your child’s name, along with the signed consent form to the office.
You can find the medication consent form on the district website at www.bdusd.org under the “PARENT” tab. Click on “HEALTH SERVICES” and on the top right you will find the medication consent form.

Our schools may close on occasion due to inclement weather. There may be cases where we are aware of this in advance and can continue learning even if our schools are closed at the building site. In these cases we will maintain learning by providing virtual opportunities. Families will be notified of the decision and Chromebooks will be sent home. K-5 students should log-in to their Canvas account (our online learning management system) sometime after 9:00 AM. They will find their instructions for concise learning activities on this platform. In addition, classroom teachers will post the time they will be live online to meet with students who have questions or need support. Teachers may also be reached via email during school hours. Activities can be completed at any time over the course of the day. If there are barriers to students accessing the internet or conducting learning on these days, please communicate with the classroom teacher(s) who will extend the due date appropriately.
