SCS Happenings: February 19, 2021
Saint Catharine of Siena, pray for us.
From One Wildcat to Another...
Mother nature has had fun with us these last few weeks! Snow, snow, ice, rain, and more snow! Thank you for your adaptability during these "weather" filled days. Your students have done an amazing job keeping up with their work and their attendance at zooms. You, parents, have done an amazing job adapting to our "mounds of snow" traffic pattern for dismissal as well. Thank you for your continued patience and positive support in all we do here at Saint Catharine of Siena School.
Reflecting (as always) on what we have endured since March 12, 2020, and I continue to be in awe of our students. In a world where instant gratification used to be the norm, they have amazingly adapted to having to wait, tweaking the plan, and doing. Again, this is not easy...for anyone...but we continue, together. Your students are inspiring. You should be proud of them, I am.
Each day, the students at Saint Catharine of Siena are asked to keep our list of special intentions in their hearts and in their brains, do something kind for one another, and offer it up as a prayer for our list of special intentions and those they love the most. You are in our prayers daily.
Our special intention list is growing. Please add our special intention list to your daily prayers. Thank you.
Please continue to monitor ALL of your family members for symptoms of Covid-19, which include sore throat, headache, fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle or body aches, the new loss of taste or smell, congestion, or runny nose, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. If your child, or ANYONE in your household, is having ANY of these symptoms, please keep your child(ren) home from school and immediately report symptoms to your family’s primary care physician, as well as school officials.
Enrollment is open for the 2021-2022 school year. We look forward to having your students back with us and are hopeful we will all be together. This early enrollment process is imperative to Saint Catharine of Siena because it helps us determine an enrollment figure for classroom size, ordering of textbooks, school supplies, etc.
We thank you for choosing Saint Catharine of Siena and for your positive support of the mission of Saint Catharine of Siena School and Catholic education. We appreciate your collaboration and partnership in your student's education.
It is our continued hope and prayer that we can be together soon. Thank you for all you do today, tomorrow, and always. Saint Catharine of Siena, pray for us.
Air high fives to all,
Mrs. Marcella Kraycik

From Student Council - DRESS DOWN DAYS - Cohort 1 - Monday, Feb. 22nd and Cohort 2 - Wednesday, Feb. 24th
Student Dress Down Day: Handbook appropriate clothes and "Handbook nails"
Catholic Charities Dress Down Day, $2.00
- Monday, February 22, 2021

Out of Uniform Days
Occasionally students will be permitted to “dress down” either as a reward for an announced reason, to participate in a fund-raiser for a designated cause, or to celebrate an event. Clothing should be modest, neat, and clean without holes or “rips,” inappropriate language, or inappropriate graphics. The following guidelines should be followed for out of uniform days:
Permitted:
Girls: Jeans, gym pants, slacks (no stretch slacks), capris, modest skirts and dresses, blouses, T-shirts or other appropriate tops, socks, shoes, or sneakers
Boys: Jeans, gym pants, slacks, T-shirts, knit shirts, or other appropriate shirts, socks, shoes or sneakers
Modesty is the guiding virtue. On an “out of uniform day” if a student is dressed inappropriately, the student will be required to obtain a uniform from the uniform corner.
Chick-fil-A Days rescheduled due to Ice/Snow.
Cohort 2 - Thursday, February 25th
IF you did not pre-order Chick-fil-A, you will need to pack a nut free lunch.
CAFETERIA is CLOSED on CHICK-FIL-A DAYS.
March 2, 2021 HSO Meeting...ALL are welcome
SCS Class Masses
Instead, Class Masses in homerooms have begun. We are very grateful to be able to celebrate the Eucharist together. For example 2nd grade, cohort 1 would be the only class participating in mass in their classroom if scheduled.
Monsignor Domin and Father Wehr will begin celebrating mass in the classrooms with the scheduled grade/cohort.
Thank you for your kind understanding and positive support in this matter.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Kraycik at mkraycik@scsreading.org

Inclement Weather and Snow Days
If inclement weather or some other emergency necessitates a school delay and/or closing, it will be announced on TV and radio, posted on the school website (www.scsreading.org), and sent out via the emergency communication system (Option C) and Facebook. Late arrivals and early dismissals will be announced through Option C.
Transportation is based on the school districts’ schedules. In the event that Saint Catharine of Siena School is open and the public school districts are experiencing a delay, the parent may provide transportation or follow the school district transportation schedule.
From Mrs. Miller, the School Nurse...updated 1.8.2021
*Please read the following information carefully and in its entirety.*
Dear SCS Parents and Guardians,
I hope that you and your families have had a beautiful and happy holiday season! As we forge on, with hope, into this New Year; I ask that you continue to keep in mind the health of our school community. I am grateful to those of you who have contacted our staff with updates to this point. I understand and appreciate the hardships that isolation and quarantine requirements present to families. You are playing a vital role in protecting others, and I cannot thank you enough for your honesty and selflessness.
Please continue to keep your child home and notify me or Mrs. Kraycik if
Your child or anyone in your household is displaying symptoms of illness (Please see attached list)
Anyone in your household is awaiting results of a Covid-19 test or has tested positive for Covid-19
Your child has been in contact with anyone displaying symptoms of illness
Anyone in your family has been in contact with someone who is awaiting results of a Covid-19 test or has tested positive for Covid-19
Your child has traveled outside of Pennsylvania
The SCS Pandemic Response Team continues to follow the most conservative guidelines outlined by the CDC and the Pennsylvania Department of Health. We are committed to doing so in order to safeguard the health of the members of our school community, all extended family members, and the greater community. This remains our top priority.
I pray that the New Year brings peace, hope, and comfort to each of you and your families; and I thank you again for your cooperation as we move forward.

Dismissal Commuter Line Update
Thank you to all who have been adhering to our dismissal policies and procedures. We are grateful to you.
Because the "big" buses have been arriving earlier than expected, the bus riders are being dismissed first to avoid "clogging" 23rd street. Feel free to NOT enter the lot until after 2:45 pm to avoid idling in the car line.
With the winter season approaching, the possibility of inclement weather increases. Although we do our best to keep our lot cleared of snow and ice, we ask you to practice these safety items:
- Keep speed to a minimum
- Keep a social distance between cars coming down 24th street.
- Keep a larger social distance between vehicles driving up the scary hill towards 23rd street.
- Continue to wait until a staff member directs you up the hill. We wait until all students in the 23rd bus line are "in the clear" before sending vehicles up the hill.
Thank you for all you do to keep our students safe during dismissal.
Care for one another
- Monitor the health of your family
- Stay home if sick.
- Give grace
We are in this together
- Keep home if the student is feeling ill
- Pray for healing
- Be kind
- Practice patience
- Be flexible
- Check-in (at a distance) on others
Be socially responsible
- Wear a mask
- Wash your hands
- Watch your distance
- Quarantine if you have had close contact with someone with COVID-19 for 14 days.

These certificates would make great Stocking Stuffers.
See form below.
Lunches
We encourage the packing of nut-free lunches this year. Due to COVID restrictions, the students are eating in various places around our campus. They are dining either in classrooms, the cafeteria, or alfresco if weather permits.
A nut-free table is not available this year. Therefore, we are asking that nut-free lunches and snacks be brought to school this year. We thank you for your support and your respectful cooperation in this matter.
The cafeteria will be serving a limited menu if the lunch service is needed. The EVER POPULAR meatball sub is back! Yum!
Scrip Volunteers Needed, please.
We are looking for a volunteer to sell SCRIP for the 2nd Sunday of every month, 1st shift (7:15am - 10:15a.m). If you are looking to volunteer, but your time is limited, this is a great option! You will sell 12x a year, and if you need a sub for a month off or want to switch a shift during any month, simply reach out to the other sellers!

Box Tops for Education
No more clipping. No more sending Box Tops to school. All you need is your phone. Download the ALL-NEW Box Tops app, shop as you normally would, then simply scan your store receipts to find participating products. The app will automatically credit your school's Box Tops earnings online.
You can still clip them and send them to school. Physical Box Top clips are being phased out of production, but may continue to be found on many products throughout the store. Send your clipped Box Tops, along with any unexpired clips you may have at home, to SCS.
Twice a year, your school will receive a check and can use that cash to buy whatever it needs!
