The Principal's POV on...our PLC's & the POWER of Flexibility

It's been a challenge to get substitute coverage for our PLC release days, so I'm currently working on a game plan to adjust how we will handle this area of our grade level curriculum work. After all, as educators we must always be flexible and be willing to go back to the research! In doing so, I decided to review the work of Daniel Venables (the PLC guru that inspired this initiative), and revisited an article he recently wrote for ED Leadership.

As Venables states, the two areas most worthy of our focus during PLC's (and that have the biggest impact on student learning) include: focusing on the "hows" of instruction (NOT what and when, which is frequently the focus) and on building social capital among team members (this is where our faculty presentations & SEL activities come in!). In an effort to keep both of these concepts at the forefront of what we do, I thought we could shift gears and use our grade level meeting time to co-plan and review the "hows" of our upcoming Math and/or ELA units.

Take a moment over the long weekend to review the info-graphic below and click here to check out Venables' article. Most importantly, don't forget to share your thoughts on how the categories below that will impact your HOW's of instruction! Thank you for a fantastic week & have a great weekend!
