West Quad Update
Great job with training so far!!
Training is almost over...but the work is just beginning!
Resident Assistants in First Year Buildings have extra work to do at the start of the semester to on board our new students and welcome them to their new home. I thank you in advance for the extra hours you are putting in now, rather than waiting to be reactionary. This newsletter will remind you and inform you of the extra requirements of RAs who lead first year communities.
Head Resident Sustainability Fellows Meet'n Greet
All First Year buildings will have a Sustainability Fellow(s) assigned to them. Head Residents will be supervising the Sustainability Fellows. Head Residents are required to attend dinner on Thursday 8/21 at 5:00pm in the Shorney Basement Lounge. Here you will meet the Residential Sustainability Fellows and begin the planning process for the year. Additionally, on Friday you will be excused from the Field Day and you will meet with the Sustainability Fellows to continue planning for the year. We will meet at 9:00am for breakfast in the Shorney Basement Lounge. Thank you to all the Head Residents for your flexibility and for adapting to this change in our department.
Community Meetings
All Head Residents and Resident Assistants will meet on Thursday 8/21 at 6:30pm in Higley Auditorium. Here you will enjoy dessert with the August Orientation Leaders and review your role at the Community Meetings. Community Meeting Presentations will take place on Monday 8/25 at 10:00am-10:45am in the following Locations:
- Shorney Hall: Burke Recital Hall (Make sure RAs walk their residents to burke since it is a further location)
- Curtis East and Curtis West: Slayter Auditorium
- Smith Hall: Burton Morgan Lecture Hall
- Beta House: Talbot 210
- Morrow House: Talbot 212
- Kappa Sigma: Olin
- Preston: Higley Auditorium
Move in Day
Move in Day can be a really exciting day for you as RAs and HRs! It is a day to welcome the class of 2018, but also prepare them for their next four years! There are a lot of emotions ranging from anxiety to sadness. Parents may have demands for their son or daughter, and the new students may test your patience with their questions or eagerness to test the Student Code of Conduct (already!). The Head Residents will have a plan to break up the team into different roles (I need this plan by 9:00am Thursday 8/21).
Although you will play different roles on move in day, you are expected to be present for move in day from 7:45am-12:45pm. You must wear your Red Polo and Name Tag. Meet in your building's first floor lounge at 7:40am (do not risk being late on this day).
Move in Day is Sunday August 24th from 7:45am-12:45pm
