Library IT
Yale University Library
User Experience
Library IT sought to gather information about user needs and behavior, then designed and implemented solutions for the following projects:
Rapid Access Kiosks
Users expressed a desire for faster log in times on computers in Sterling Memorial Library nave. In response, staff found simple software and repurposed a group of under-used Macs. These Macs are available with no log in so that users can quickly search Orbis or schedule rooms.
Library Homepage Redesign
Data showed that many links on the old home page were never used. The page was redesigned and little used links were removed, while high use resources were highlighted with prominent search boxes.

New Libguides Template
Libguides at YUL are in the process of getting a new, cleaner look, with standardized templates and a set of best practices for library service information. Libguides will be easy for staff to maintain their service information.
Room Scheduling
Feedback from users in Sterling Memorial Library indicated that they had trouble using group study spaces—these were often occupied with single students. IT staff helped to expand the schedule.library.yale.edu project, started at CSSSI, to include Sterling rooms. Schedule.yale.edu is now available for any Yale library- add your study space today!
