Abraham Lincoln
Republican
Honest Abe
Lincoln did not like slavery. His belief was to abolish slavery. He opposed the spread of slavery in any form to the new territories. He ran for United States Senate on the Repulican ticket in 1858, against incumbent Stephen Douglas, taking part in the now famous "Lincoln-Douglas Debates." He lost the election, but gained national recongnition.

History would have changed very drastically if Abraham Lincoln wasn't elected president. There would still be slavery going on and the South would be seperated from the United States. Both the North and the South would be struggling without each other.
