Lesson 14 Grammar Review
We can use the て form of verbs to help us express actions that are currently in progress. If I say "I am reading" in English, this is the present progressive form.
To create this form in you'll need to use the て form of the verb + the verb いる (to be/exist.) Check out the examples below:
あさごはんにさかなをたべています。
For breakfast, I am eating fish.
ねこはみずをのんでいます。
The cat is drinking water.
テディーベアはほんをよんでいます。
The teddy bear is reading a book.
We learned how to conjugate to the て form in lesson 10. Check out those grammar notes if you need a refresher.
USING から TO SAY "BECAUSE"/GIVE A REASON
から can be used to give a reason why something is so.
What happened as a result of the situation is pared with から, and an explanation is given for this in a separate clause. Here's how it works:
日本語のクラスはいつもたのしいです。せんせいはおもしろいですから。
Japanese class is always fun. Because the teacher is interesting/funny.
きのうはあたたかかったですから、しゅくだいをしませんでした。
Because yesterday was warm, I didn't do my homework. D:
Using multiple adjectives to describe the same noun
To use multiple adjectives to describe the same noun in the same sentence, use the te form along with another adjective to make that happen! Examples:
ハンバーガー は やすくて おいしい です。
A hamburger is cheap (and) delicious
ふじさん は きれいで ゆうめい です。
Mt. Fuji is beautiful (and) famous.
とうきょう は おおきくて ゆうめい です。
Tokyo is big (and) famous.
