Special Request from nurse ericka
Dear Barksdale Parents,
With the upcoming long weekend, this is a good time to wash jackets, hats, book bags, lunchboxes, etc. to help fight the spread of influenza and other illness. You may want to wipe items with Clorox wipes if washing is not recommended. Please help us keep ALL OUR CHILDREN AND TEACHERS healthy!
Thanks,
Nurse Ericka

There are so many new and exciting concepts being learned and performed in music!
In 5th grade, we are learning the difference between macro and micro beats in preparation for reading in 6/8.
Our 4th graders will be taking a field trip to an orchestra concert in March. So far we have listened to, and discussed, the finale of Stravinsky's Firebird ballet, the "Can Can" from Orpheus in the Underworld by J. Offenbach, and "Les Toreadours" from Bizet's Carmen.
Third grade is identifying the somber sounds of songs with a "la tonal center," as opposed to our happier songs with a "do tonal center."
Thursday, February 8th, our 2nd graders are performing after the PTA meeting which begins at 6:30PM. The theme of this performance is "Camp Barksdale."
First grade is being introduced to solfege for the first time. They are now able to read "sol" and "mi" off of a reduced staff.
Kindergarten is preparing to learn quarter notes and eighth notes by identifying "duck" and "chicky" in different patterns.
All of this learning is of course mixed in with their favorite activities....games!
It is a pleasure to teach your children music. I see them grow as musicians everyday!
Thank you for your continued support,
Mrs. Chun
