ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Families,
It feels as though we are speeding through the month of May! As our teachers and students are still working at full steam in their classrooms, teaching teams are also working on placement and transition plans for students moving to new loops and grades for the 2018-2019 school year. Our administrative team is also working on transition plans within our staffing for next year.
This year, with the CVSD consolidation, that work has been done with a great deal of collaboration with our fellow administrators in other CVSD schools and the guidance of our central office leadership team. Being able to do this within a consolidated district has allowed us to share our strengths and resources across our district. It also allows our teachers to do what we encourage our students to do on a daily basis - engage in continuous learning and to take positive risks and try new challenges!
As staffing plans evolve at CCS, we will keep our students and families informed of any transitions and changes. At this point, CCS is planning on the following transitions:
Our current CCS Literacy Specialist/Coordinator Shannon Spellman will be teaching Grade 1 next year. Shannon will be teaming with Kris Gerson on the Adventurers team, filling a one-year Leave of Absence for Kelly Bouteiller. We are currently working on the staffing for our Literacy/Instructional Coach model. Other instructional coaching shifts include Mary Muroski continuing to work as a 50% instructional coach here at CCS and 50% as an instructional coach at Hinesburg Community School.
World Language programming next year will include a slight shift. World Language will be offered in Grades 3-8, which will include a reduction from two full-time teachers to 1.5 teachers. CCS Spanish teacher Senora Netherwood will be moving over to CVU due to this staff reduction. We are in the midst of the interview process for our half-time World Language teaching position.
CCS School Counseling is another area in which there will be some transitions and changes. CCS school counseling staffing is going from 1.5 positions to the equivalent of one full-time position. Our counseling model next year will include CCS school counselor Vicki Nelson working 30% FTE with Grades K-2 at CCS and 50% FTE at Hinesburg Community School. CCS School Counselor Kathy Batty will remain at CCS, working 70% with grades 3-8. CCS is continuing to enhance and refine our supports for students’ social-emotional learning with programming in school counseling, our Delta program and Planning Room systems. We are also pleased to announce that our staff will include a half-time social worker next year.
Working together with our own teams here at CCS, as well as within the extended district team that we are part of, we are able to continue to reflect upon and examine our systems and how they can continue to evolve to best meet the needs of our students.
Warm Regards,
Stephanie, Jen and Cassandra
