Counselor's Corner
Skyline students are filled with anticipation for Halloween. According to the Washington County Police Department, “on average, children are twice more likely to be hit by a car on Halloween than on any other day of the year.” To help stay safe on Halloween, they recommend:
Walk in groups or with a trusted adult, do not allow children to trick-or-treat
Alone.Fasten reflective tape to costumes and bags to
help drivers see you.Use a flashlight while trick-or-treating.
Always walk and do not run from house to
house.
Have a fun and safe Halloween,
Amy Gervais

TAG Nomination forms are still available but must be submitted by November 30th at the very latest. I, unfortunately, I will not be able to take any forms that have been submitted after that date. t would be a great idea to talk with your child's teacher at conferences if you have any academic questions as well. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any further questions or need any supports with the forms.

FREE Talk - “How to Talk to Kids About Sex & Sexuality”
February 4 @ 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Skyline Library
Join us in the library for this FREE introductory workshop by certified sexuality educator, Elona Landau. Ms. Landau will dismantle why it is difficult to talk about sex and sexuality, what it means to be an "askable adult," and the top 10 tips for talking about these topics with your kids. She'll provide everyone with a recommended book list, and the evening will end with Q&A.
**This workshop is for adults, only (infants, however, are welcomed).
PTA will offer FREE childcare + pizza dinner for the kids during this talk!
Please RSVP for childcare by sending me an email: skylineschoolpta@gmail.com.
Should we need to cancel due to inclement weather, the makeup date for this workshop is February 11.
STEM Night February 2019 6-8 p.m.
In February (exact date TBD), we are hosting a schoolwide STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Night! Everyone is invited! Our gym will be filled with different hands-on activities and stations for you and your kids to experience together. Our 7th graders, too, will be showing off their STEM projects. It’s going to be a fun-filled CELEBRATION of all things STEM.
BUT, we need your help! We’re looking for some parent volunteers to oversee the activities (one parent per activity). We've got a list of suggested activities, but welcome your own. Each should last about 10 minutes. No experience in science or math is required! But, certainly, if you work in STEM on a daily basis, PLEASE HELP!
We hope STEM Night will spark an enthusiasm for STEM in our kids, including careers, and engage families, foster connections, and encourage lifelong learning!
