7 Mindsets

Attitude of Gratitude teaches us that we have the opportunity to choose to focus on the positives or the negatives in our lives. If we choose to focus on the positives we will be on a path to greatness. Attitude of Gratitude reminds us to:

Treasure Yourself- Recognize that you are made of wonderful things.

Be More Grateful- Focus on the good things in life.

Thank it Forward- Express to gratitude to others and what they have done for you.

Elevate your Perspective- Learn from challenges and seek the positives in every situation.

A Note From Mrs. Smith

Welcome to Fall! It’s my favorite time of the year. It’s sweater weather, you can bring out the boots, and if your hair is like mine – fall is your friend!!! This month’s mindset is Attitude of Gratitude. One of my favorite things to do in the mornings (even when I don’t feel like it) is to have a gratitude “walk” on the way to school. The sun is usually just starting to come up and the girls and I take turns saying what we are thankful for. Sometimes it’s serious and sometimes it’s the littlest of things – like the McDonald’s drive through! Today I am super thankful for YOU! I am thankful that you drop off your children with us every day. I am thankful that we are a part of your family’s journey and life story. I am incredibly thankful for the relationships we have with your family. So THANK YOU for sharing your family with us! ~Mrs. Smith

The Book Fair is Coming!

The Monster Book Fair is coming to Mashburn November 9-13. Mrs. Sears is looking for volunteers to help lead this year’s planning for the Book Fair and volunteers to help set-up, decorate, run the register, assist students, and take-down. If you are able to help, please use this Sign Up Genius to schedule your time, or contact Mrs. Sears as soon as possible at dsears@forsyth.k12.ga.us or 770-889-1630, extension 750145.

Letters to the Troops

Last year Mashburn Elementary sent 700 letters to troops stationed all over the world. We told all of these brave men and women thank you for protecting our country and our freedom. This year we want to make our big thank you even bigger!

Write a letter with mom and dad at home and ask your teacher to allow you to write a letter to a soldier in your free time or during your writing time. Write more than one if you would like!

Please remember that all letters need to be on a plain sheet of paper but decorations with crayon and marker would be awesome! Only one page per letter but you can use both sides. Do not put the letters in an envelope but putting your name and the school address would be cool because last year we got several letters back from the troops. How neat would it be to become a pen pal with a soldier that is stationed overseas?

All letters must be turned in by October 26th. We can’t wait to see how many letters our Mashburn Bluebears write!

International Festival

The International Festival is just one month away! Please make plans with your family to attend this inaugural event on Thursday, November 19 from 6:00 – 8:00pm at Mashburn Elementary. Come enjoy the international dances. The table displays will represent over 25 different countries, including Norway, Guyana, Brazil, Guinea, and China! Coco’s Cuban Restaurant will be our food vendor, so you may also plan to have dinner with your Mashburn family. There will be many activities, including:

  • Caribbean Hair Braiding
  • Passport Office (the first 120 students will get a Blue Bear Passport and a chance to win prizes once they travel the world)
  • Arts & Crafts Table
  • International Costume Contest (wear anything international such as head dresses, masks, team shirts, ponchos, etc.)
  • International Dance Contest
  • Table Display Contest

It is not too late to sign up. If you are interested in decorating a display representing your family’s heritage or performing a dance or instrumental piece, please contact Cristina Saldana-Illingworth at csaldana@forsyth.k12.ga.us. See the flyer for more information.

Battle of the Books (B.O.B.)

If you love a good book, then you should join Mashburn’s Battle of the Books! While having great adventures and a good laugh, grades third through fifth can read their way into battles - book battles that is. By answering questions about books from the books we read, you can participate in fun and exciting Quiz Show style competitions to be held in May. We will have lots of fun through the year, talking about great books, watching the book movies, having a character party, and having mini competitions. We hope you will join us for some reading fun! See your teachers for a permission form. Let the book battles begin!

50s Day

Thursday, October 22nd is the 50th day of school! We are going to celebrate as a school by wearing our 50’s attire, dancing to 50’s music, enjoying some 50’s snacks, or doing some fun 50th day activities in our classrooms. You can go all out with a poodle skirt or leather jacket or just keep it simple with rolled jeans, a white shirt, scarf, and a pony tail.
