Hopes and Dreams for Parents & our Garden
The idea for a school garden actually came from our Hopes and Dreams event about 10 years ago. Due to a variety of reasons, including repair of the East wall of the school building and reconstruction of the school yard, it has taken us until now to start our garden. Last Sunday many families came out to build our garden beds. Photos below.
Every Monday and Wednesday Marisa Prefer of Sprout Farms will be working with our students through all the recess periods. Last Monday students worked with Marisa to plant some seed starts. On Wednesday they continued their work. Students will be able to choose to garden during their recess period on these days.
They will use popsicle sticks to mark rows for direct seeding into the garden. They'll plant herbs that Katie (another person from Sprout Farms) brought over from other gardens. She will create & share a garden map so that everyone can all be on the same page about what's planted where.
Much thanks to Anat, parent of Amos and Phoebe, who has been moving the work along.
