Creative Chlorine

Facts about me.

Creative Chlorine

Hi I'm Chlorine. My symbol is Cl. My normal phase is a gas. My atomic number is 17 and my atomic mass is 35. I have 17 protons and electrons and 18 neutrons. My melting point is 101.5 degrees C. My boiling point is -34.04 degrees C. I am part of the Halogens group. I got my name from the Greek word Chloros meaning "pale green." I was discovered by Carl Wilhelm Scheele in the year of 1774. I'm obtained from salt and used in many different things. I was also used as a poisonous gas in World War l. I was probably the most feared weapon in World War l. I react with water in your lungs forming hydrochroic acid. Soldiers described the smell as a distinct mix of pepper and pineapples. By 1810 the element we now call chlorine was actually a compound that contained oxygen. There is no problem using me, but without me there would be because there would be no clean water. Therefore you'd get sick. I'm also used to disinfect water and swimming pools. I turn your hair green because I am killing the bleach in your hair, natural or not. The first place that used me to disinfect water was London in 1905. I am one of the most manufactured chemical in the United States. Also I'm used to increase the affect of pain killers. That's all I can really say about myself. Thanks for reading!
