The Stegemoller Scoop

November 30-December 4

HELP! Donations NEEDED!!!

Thursday, December 17th will be our Holiday Party. The students will be making Gingerbread Houses. I need donations ASAP! The celebration will also include hot chocolate (provided by me), and the movie, Polar Express. We will only have an hour to get the Houses completed, so I need 3-4 volunteers to come in to help me. The party will be from 1:00-2:00. Clean up around 2:00.

Items Needed:

  • Sturdy Picnic Plates-preferably not paper (enough for 25 students)
  • Plastic Knives (1 per student)
  • 5 boxes of Graham Crackers
  • 13 small containers of vanilla icings
  • 3 bags of Gumdrops
  • 3 bags Peppermints
  • 2 bags of plain M&Ms
  • Assortment of Candy Canes (I'm assuming these will be pretty popular so as many boxes as I can get).
  • 5 bags of Gummy Bears
  • 3 bags of Hershey Kisses
  • 5 packages of Licorice.
  • Paper Cups (1 per student)

These are the only candies we will be using on the Gingerbread Houses, so please just donate what is on the list. We are doing a math project working up to constructing the houses. You will get more information next Friday.

What's Happening in Room 505!

My math group is starting Unit 9: Patterns.

Please make sure your child is practicing their math facts at home. Addition 0-12, Subtraction 0-12, and Multiplication 0-12. I suggest using Flashcards, Flash to Pass (App.), or print free pages online. We give the students 50 problems to complete in 3 minutes. If you need to know what your child is working on, send me an email.

Unit 3 Week 2

Comprehension Strategy: Visualize

Comprehension Skill: Cause and Effect

Genre: Historical Fiction

Vocabulary Strategy: Figurative Language

Third Quarter Change!!

Starting after Christmas Break, the students will be staying in their homeroom for Reading. This is crunch time before ISTEP and IREAD. If your child is in Miss Twyman's room, they will stay in her room.

We are creating a class Gingerbread book! : ) It will include a collection of their Gingerbread stories.

SRI and SMI will be tested the first week we get back from Christmas Break. Please make sure your child is finding time to read over the long break. My concern is that scores could drop if students are not continuing to read and practice math over break. We will be sending home Christmas Break homework to ensure that students are still reviewing skills.
