Greetings All -
I hope everyone is having a great week! We are busy, busy, busy up here getting ready for the new school year!
First of all, I think we have FINALLY gotten all new staff hired! Rachel Foy, Coach Randy Foy's wife, will be joining us in 5th grade Math this year. Rachel and Randy live in Shiro. They have two precious daughters - Mila (18 months) and Brooklynn (4 months).
Also, as of today, we have hired Alejandra Olguin to be our new custodian. Alejandra is Fernando, Abigail, and Carlos Olguin's mother. She is very excited about her new job! Please help me in welcoming her to our campus!
Interviews for the Digital Learning Specialist are taking place this week. This person will be housed on our campus and work with Brenda within our technology department. As soon as I have information about who has been hired, I will pass it on.
As far as our Superintendent search goes, the board consulted with TASB (Texas Association of School Boards), and they advised that due to it being summertime, it is not the best time to begin a superintendent search. Therefore, the board decided to begin their search during the fall semester. Thank goodness we have such a capable interim superintendent in the meantime!
If you come up here to visit or work, you will see tons of work going on! We are definitely in "wide open" mode around here now! Please remember that if you do not have any of the stuff you were storing in the upstairs science lab out by Friday, it will be moved into the hallway for anyone to take. We have to get the room ready for Joanna Sorenson to have Art and Music in there this year. The portable building will be leaving our campus in the near future! :)
As I finish different schedules, I am sharing them with you on Google Drive. One schedule that will be a little different this year is the morning duty roster. If you are a homeroom teacher, you will have one morning of duty, two mornings that you are responsible for holding a tutoring/reteaching/retesting time in your room, and two mornings off. There are a couple of exceptions to that rule: Tonya Carroll and Mary Kroll. They do not have tutoring twice a week. Tonya has it once a week for Science/SS. She will have duty one morning and then she will be responsible one morning per week to make sure the big copy machine in the red hall has all of the trays filled with paper. Mary does not have tutoring in PK. She will have two mornings a week of duty and then she will load copy paper one morning a week as well. This still gives all homeroom teachers two mornings off per week.
The master schedule is done. If you would like me to email you a copy of it before inservice, I can certainly do that. It is not on Google Drive, so I will have to email you the copy.
Our Character Education curriculum that Christy and I decided on is Character Counts. I am ordering us things to get started with today. We are using our profits from the yearbook in order to pay for the curriculum as well as motivational posters, etc... The website for Character Counts is www.charactercounts.org if you want to go online and look around. Pinterest also had some great ideas for the curriculum.
Lastly, I would like to invite everyone up on Wednesday, August 7th for a "hallway", lounge, display case, foyer, etc... decorating party! Pizza will be served for lunch. I would love for us all to come together in decorating our common areas to make them inviting for our students. Please text me or email me if you can make it on that day to help out. I realize new teachers will be having inservice, but all of you veterans could be a big help on that day. Come help, visit, eat, and get ready for a great year!!
Everyone have a great rest of the week!
Soaring with you this year,
Marcy
