National School Lunch Program - we're adding Breakfast!!!!
We are so happy that we will be able to offer a breakfast program along with our lunch program here at SMS. We thought we would be able to start last week, but the paperwork was a little slower than hoped for. However, now we can!
If you are eligible for the free and reduced lunch program, then you also qualify at the same rate for breakfast.
Beginning on Monday, please let your teachers know if you will be needing breakfast for the FOLLOWING day. (For example, on Monday, your teachers will ask how many people would like to order for Tuesday morning.)
In addition, if you qualified for free or reduced lunch last year, but have not yet applied for this year, your time is running out. As of October 19th, 2017 your benefits from last year will expire. PLEASE send in your applications!
CHANGING OF THE UNIFORM
Polo shirts & shorts are OUT.....button-downs and ties are IN!
Come Monday morning, don't forget to put on your button down shirts and long pants. The weather changed just in time--whew! :)

Student Skill Sets: High School
In this week’s Student Skills Tutorials conducted by Mr. Duchaney, SMS students identified the specifics skills needed by all students aiming at academic excellence. Just as the professional basketball player needs to run, pass, dribble and shoot at a high level of proficiency, so too must the student excel in the performance of his fundamental skills: listening, note taking, classroom participation, reading, writing, and studying. In next week’s sessions each of these fundamental skills will be a topic of special instruction.
Students learned that the relationship between a teacher and a student is like the
relationship between a baseball pitcher and catcher. Just as the pitcher and
catcher must cooperate for the ball to pass successfully between them, so too
must teachers and students cooperate, so that the education, like the baseball,
will find a secure place of rest; the baseball in the catcher's mitt, the
education in the soul of the student.
To close the week, Mr. Duchaney spoke of the Foundations of Success, those qualities and habits that will make the student successful not only in school but in life -attitude, self-discipline, organization, time management and a spirit of cooperation.
Good things -exciting things are happening at SMS! - and we want our students to have all the skills necessary to make the most of the opportunities coming their way.
