A Message from Mrs. Akers
Dear Rennell Families,
I hope you are all well and are adjusting more and more to learning at home. The staff and I miss seeing our Redhawks face to face and can’t wait to be back at school together.
Beginning this week, the district asked teachers to begin taking one grade per content area. Teachers also began sending videotaped mini-lessons for each academic content area along with the assignments to be graded. This documentation (grading) is necessary for our students to receive credit for their Learning at Home.
The district grading guidelines are as follows:
PK-1st Grade:
- Teachers will record the weekly completion of selected learning assignments in each content area from the Learning at Home curriculum (curriculum packet or online).
- Students will complete 6 selected learning assignments for the 4th marking period in each content area (ELAR, Math, Science, Social Studies).
- Teachers will take one grade per week in each content area from the Learning at Home curriculum (curriculum packet or online) which has been provided. The grade will be taken from the weekly lesson delivered.
- Students will receive a weekly grade in each content area (ELAR, Math, Science, Social Studies).
- All grades will be weighted equally.
These grades are more participation and engagement grades than grades in the traditional sense. We are hoping to document student participation in Learning at Home using either the online platform and/or paper packets. If we are not back at school by May 4th, we will send updates to the grading guidelines.
Teachers will indicate the assignments that will be graded in their weekly communication. Your child's teacher(s) will communicate with you about how grades will be submitted. Please communicate with your child's teacher the needs and/or limitations you have. We want to be flexible and help however we can. We do ask for your patience as we begin this new process in our Learning at Home adventure. Our goal is to make this as efficient and simple as possible. Based on your feedback - our teachers are doing their best to streamline communication as much as possible.
I know many of you (including our teachers) are now working from home and are trying to manage your family, your children’s learning, and all other aspects of your day. There is nothing normal about this, and we know it is hard. We are all in this together, and we are here to help and support you.
Stay safe and well,
Meredith Akers

Counselor's Corner
Redhawk Families,
We would love to take a moment to cheer on the hard work you and your kiddos have been doing! We know it is no easy task switching to “learning at home” but our Redhawks and their families are rocking it!
In addition to learning curriculum and content at school our Rennell staff also strives try to shape and mold behavior in a positive way. As a PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support) school we have adopted a motto that we refer back to often, our SOAR matrix. The SOAR Matrix outlines how students should behave at school, and each letter stands for a positive behavior that we encourage at Rennell:
S- Safe
O- On task
A- Accountable
R- Respectful
We know our Redhawk students know this motto by heart in our Rennell building, but we would love to see them apply it to their new way of learning at home! Each week we will highlight ways and suggestions that Redhawk students can use our SOAR Matrix at home. Tune in to your teachers' newsletters each week for fun videos from your counselors! As always, we love you and are here for you.

Has your Redhawk had a birthday since we left Spring Break (March 7 or later)? Do they have a birthday in the coming week? Mrs. Akers would love to recognize them in the Redhawk Reader, however, we don't want to post any names without parent permission. If you would like your child to be recognized, please submit the information at this link.

Rennell Garden Days - Virtual Lessons
Our gardening teacher, Stephanie Baker, owner of Ready to Grow Gardens, shared these additional resources for all of our students:
In an effort to stay connected with our Rennell students, I will be doing a Facebook Live each Saturday morning at 10 am from my garden on the Ready to Grow Gardens Facebook page (@readygrowgardens) I thought this could be a way that parents and students could ask questions and I could answer them.
I also have a fun garden activity on my Youtube channel - Ready to Grow Gardens - Garden Day that your students may enjoy. I'm creating a series of videos called "Five Minutes of Fun in the Garden" and episode #1 is there now!
