Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members,

Last week, Beth Ulrichsen and I had the privilege of visiting an established multi-age school called Sycamore Valley Academy (SVA) in Visalia, California. SVA is a charter school that was set up purposely as a multi-age school, and has the same grade level combinations that we will have next year. In their first year, they had one class for each grade combination. Four years later, they have maxed out at three classes for each grade combination. Today, there is a long waiting list for openings. As a result, SVA administrators are planning to open a second multi-age school.

Beth and I learned so much from our visit. Reflecting on the plane trip back east, we decided that it was the excitement and passion for learning that stood out the most. Teachers and students at SVA are genuinely proud of their school and what they are accomplishing together. We were warmly welcomed into their school family. Students greeted us on the playground as if we were already a part of their community. Teachers were eager to share what they were doing, and equally interested in our instruction at Warren School. We gathered some great ideas to incorporate into our programming, and learned that we are definitely on the right track as we evolve into a full multi-age school.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Sandra Stone back to Warren School on next week, and we invite you to a Multi-age discussion with Dr. Stone and the Warren School staff on Tuesday, April 12th at 6:30 PM. Childcare is available with a reservation. Please see the flyer below for additional information.

Best wishes,

Angela Rossbach, Ed.D.

Parking Lot Reminder

When dropping children off at school, please remember to turn your engine off before exiting your car. According to DEEP, reducing emissions from idling cars is one of the most important air-quality issues facing Connecticut today. In addition, "no idling" is the law. Please click here for more information.

Family Garden Project Night - April 11th

You have an opportunity to get acquainted with the garden and leave a lasting impression upon it on April 11th at 5:00.

Each family will create a tile art mosaic on a cement block that will be used to build new raised beds for the rejuvenation of Harvest of Dreams.

5:00-6:30 PM

To reserve your block, sign up here, return the flyer that was sent home, or call the school office at 860-868-2223. See the WS Mosaic Family Night flyer below for more information.

6th Graders to select Middle School Electives

On April 14th, Middle School Counselor Mrs. Spielman will be at Warren School to talk to the sixth grade students about their transition to the middle school and their choices for seventh grade. During this visit students will be selecting their electives for 7th grade - including a language if they choose to take one. There will no longer be a language rotation so students will be choosing one language for the entire year. Mrs. Butler, the head of the language department, will speak about the options. We ask that parents have a discussion with their child(ren) about taking a language. The complete Program of Studies for 7th and 8th grade students can be found on Wamogo's website here.

There will be a parent night at Wamogo in May where the middle school team can answer questions and address concerns about 7th grade. More details about this event to follow.
