Recycle Rhonda Visits 3rd Grade Classrooms
Rhonda Mace and Jack Tindell, educators from Chittenden Solid Waste District, visited third grade classrooms on Friday, Dec. 2nd. Students learned about recycling, re-using, and composting as part of their Global Studies unit. In the classroom, they practiced how to divide all types of items into the appropriate recycle, reuse, or compost bins. Guests also joined students in the cafeteria during the third-grade lunch to assist with composting and recycling.

Cultural Connections in Kindergarten
This week, Mrs. Duell's kindergarten class learned about Diwali, the Festival of Lights. Students were excited to show me the diyas (lamps) they made for this unit when I visited their classroom today.
Market Street Traffic
Rerouted for SB Community Event
The City of South Burlington is hosting a community event on December 16 and 17, and Market Street will be closed to thru traffic. The portion of the street from Allard Square to City Hall will be available for pedestrians, but that section will be blocked to prevent vehicles from driving in that area. I'm working with planners to ensure a safe route for buses and parents/caregivers who drive students to school. Next week, I'll share information about alternate routes for access to RMCS. Check out this link about the Illuminate Vermont event.
This Season is a Time for Giving & Receiving

If you would like to contribute, please use the sign-up below to select what you will purchase. Gift cards can be dropped off at the main office at anytime between now and Dec 21st.
Your generosity with this effort makes a difference for many members of our community and is greatly appreciated!

RMCS Family Night at UVM vs. AIC Hockey Game
January 14
As you know, UVM Hockey players have been visiting RMCS classrooms and making connections with our students. I'm excited to announce that we have been invited to participate in an RMCS Family Night at the UVM versus AIC hockey game on January 14. Students will be admitted for free! Next week, I'll add a link for families to secure tickets for the event. In the meantime, please save the date!
While student admission is complimentary, parents and caregivers must purchase tickets. As always, reach out to a member of the care team (counselors, nurse, princiPALs) if you need financial assistance for this event. See names and emails above. We hope to fill the rink with RMCS families!!!
Recess Volunteer Sign Up Genius
We continue to welcome volunteers to help us at recess. We are fortunate to have a large playground and appreciate the parent volunteers who sign up to help us with supervision from time to time. If you have availability, please visit the Sign Up Genius to schedule the times you are available to join us in late November through the next winter break. Thank you!

Nurse Notes
It's Common This Time of Year
Lice. Just thinking about it makes you want to itch. This is a friendly reminder this is a time of year when it's normal to have an uptick in cases of head lice. These do not discriminate! Anyone can end up with a case of head lice. We want to urge parents and caregivers to be proactive and check their student(s) for head lice at least once a week. If you discover your student has head lice, please treat according to the manufacturers’, or your health care provider’s instructions, and consider notifying the school nurse. If you have questions, please call the health room; we are happy to assist you! For more information about head lice, please refer to the CDC fact page: LINK HERE.
