Big picture

Dear Owyhee Families and Patrons,

It’s hard to believe we are coming to the end of the first quarter. Students have settled in well, learning school routines, learning what it takes to be a successful learner, building new and retaining relationships. As a school, we have appreciated the encouraging messages from families and your continued support and flexibility during these continued unprecedented times.

Silent Auction

We had a great response to our Silent Auction and were able to raise $1500 for our school. These funds help to support and supplement instructional materials and incentive items for students. The success of our Silent Auction is a reflection of the amazing front office staff, the donations, and the support we receive each year from our community businesses. We could not do this without all of them. Thank you!!!

Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO)

I am looking to start a PTO at Owyhee, where we will work collaboratively to support and recognize teachers by providing resources and activities to enhance student performance in academic and classroom learning. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact me, adria.david@boiseschools.org.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

October 15th is the end of the first quarter. This year families will be given the choice to attend virtually or in-person conferences. Your child’s teacher will be reaching out to you later in the month to confirm conference times and the preferred method for the meeting. Please be looking for this email in the next couple of weeks.

COVID Updates

We know the number of cases continues to surge in the Treasure Valley and we remain steadfast that we keep in-person learning moving forward. We are continuing to ensure all mitigating measures are in place to reduce community spread. Our health team continues to work diligently to make the best decisions based on the CDC/CDH guidelines. We understand the disruption quarantining can cause. Yet, we want to do our best to keep everyone safe. If your child is required to quarantine, your child’s teacher will reach out to you directly to provide resources they can access while at home.

Substitutes Needed

I am looking to build a preferred sub-list for Owyhee. As many of you are aware, one of the more difficult areas that schools are facing during this pandemic is acquiring substitutes for staff members that are absent. If you are interested in becoming a substitute please reach out to Kayla Henley at kayla.henley@boiseschools.org or subs@boiseschools.org.Here is additional information about the process. Thank you for your consideration and I am looking forward to growing our substitute pool at Owyhee.

  • BSD HR Job Center: this link will take them to our job center page with additional information and resources such as instructions on how to apply.

  • WinOcular Workspace: this will take them to the portal to register or sign in to an account. Once they are logged in, they will want to apply to the "Substitute" position and add the sub-pool to their application.

Lastly, Tuesday, Nov. 2 will be a virtual day for all students (K-12). This is to accommodate the election polling stations in our schools and the general population entering our buildings. There will be more reminders about this day but I simply wanted you to have plenty of time to plan ahead.

Dr. David
