Every Student, Every Day, Deserves to Learn, Lead, & Excel!
A Message from Ms. Perkins:
Sunday, November 29, 2020 will be the last day for you to make a change in your child's instructional setting for the second semester, which begins on January 6, 2021. All requests must be done in Parent Portal by a parent/guardian. You only need to make a selection if you wish to change your child's instructional setting (in-person or digital). Parents who do not want to make a change DO NOT have to complete the parent survey in the Parent Portal. The instructional setting that the students starts with in January will remain place until May.
Parents are encouraged to check with their child's classroom teacher and the Parent Portal to make sure all assignments and assessments are complete. If you have a question or concern, please contact your child's teacher. We are very close to the end of the semester and teachers will be finalizing grades for this semester in the next few weeks.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Simonton ES Track Stars
As we move into the final weeks of semester 1, we will cheer on and recognize those students who are “on track” and have completed all assignments and assessments. Honor roll and other recognitions will take place after the 1st semester ends. This is only focusing on work completion.
In-person and digital students will receive a recognition certificate and a treat bag on Friday, December 11, 2020. A time will be scheduled for digital students to pick up their treat.
Students identified as track stars will be notified December 7, 2020.
Today, November 13th, is World Kindness Day!
Simonton Holiday Card
Do you love to draw and be creative? We are preparing our Simonton ES holiday card that will be shared with other GCPS schools and community members. It would be wonderful to include a picture created by a Simonton ES student.
If you are interested in submitting your creation, please drop off your picture in Ms. Perkin's mailbox in the front office. All entries will need to be turned in by Wednesday, November 18, 2020. **Please add your name to the back of the card so we know who drew it!
EIP Students
- If you are EIP for both Reading & Math, you will need to complete 3 sessions in each domain per week.
- If you need support in just one area, you will need to complete 5 sessions (or 100 minutes) per week.
We ask you log on daily, like you would have if you were in-person. Your progress will be checked on Fridays.
To get onto Imagine Learning or Imagine Math, please log-in to the portal. On the landing page, you will see Webtiles (like shown below) that students can click on.
Both the username & password are the student's ID number. Our site code is 1302550.

DECISION FOR 2ND SEMESTER...DIGITAL OR IN-PERSON? Window open until November 29th
Gwinnett County Public Schools will extend the window for families to make a decision regarding their instructional preference for 2nd semester for their children. The new deadline will be 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 29.
The Spring Instructional Preference Questionnaire is available in the Parent Portal. Again, the questionnaire will remain open through 11:59 p.m. on November 29.
If a parent or guardian already has made a selection, changes can be made through the deadline. The updated preference will be displayed the next school day. Please note that what you see indicated in the Parent Portal as your decision will serve as confirmation of your selection.
If a parent does not have a parent portal account, they can go to the school district website for information or contact their local school to request one.
If you are currently a digital student and you will be changing in January to be in-person, please plan on bringing back your Chromebook December 17th or 18th.
Free & Reduced Lunch
The application for free and reduced lunch is still available. Please complete the annual application.

Staying Healthy
- As a barrier against airborne respiratory droplets, the CDC strongly recommends masks when students and staff are indoors and whenever social distancing isn’t possible. Teach kids the proper way to mask up: wash your hands, place the mask over your nose and mouth, secure it under your chin, don’t touch!
- Students and staff should practice frequent handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. In addition to the typical key times we tell kids to wash up, they should wash after coming into contact with high-touch areas like doorknobs and light switches as well as before touching their eyes, nose, or mouth.
- The CDC recommends keeping a distance of at least six feet from other people. Physical guides, including tape or stickers on floors, one-way routes in hallways, and posters that show kids what 6 feet looks like, can be very helpful. In places where physical distancing is difficult, it’s especially important to wear masks.
