FREE Breakfast and Lunch for ALL WHPS Students (See Updates Below)

You may be thinking about what WHPS children will do for meals during the school as a student participating in the hybrid model or in the Remote Learning Experience. The good news is that due to a change in the U.S. Department of Agriculture regulation ALL students are now eligible for FREE breakfast and lunch. There are no income requirements. WHPS wants to ensure that every student gets a nutritious meal during the school day . All students of WHPS are encouraged to enjoy a bagged breakfast and/or lunch. The following outlines information about In-Person/In-School meal service and “Grab and Go” pick-up meal service and other community food programs. Please remember to wear a mask and follow physical distancing of 6 feet when picking up Grab and Go meals.

SNAP-eligible families may qualify to get financial assistance for childcare so that you can pursue free education and training at one of Connecticut’s local community colleges from now through June 30, 2021. Information/Flyer.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

https://www.snap4ct.org/ is a program of UConn Health that provides health and nutrition information for people who receive SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits. SNAP4CT is your source for healthy, budget-friendly recipes, Connecticut farmers markets, (indicating which Markets accept SNAP and Double fruit & veggie purchases for SNAP recipients) and tips for healthier living.

SNAP Updates - H.R. 133-Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 includes:


  1. Temporary 15% increase in monthly SNAP benefits through June 2021.
  2. Excludes unemployment compensation from being counted as income for the purposes of calculating SNAP benefits and eligibility.


Aldi’s now offers online shopping with home delivery for SNAP recipients 27 stores in CT, including 693 Farmington Ave, New Britain Order & delivery is done through Instacart



  1. SNAP benefits cannot be used for shipping, delivery or service fees
  2. Instacart pickup fees are $1.99 and delivery starts at $3.99.
  3. Instacart will waive fees on first 3 SNAP orders thru March 15, 2021.

To Donate Non-Perishable Food, Gift Cards or Money


  • Food Donations should be made to West Hartford Food Pantry. WHPS Grab and Go sites will accept food donations and deliver them to WH Food Pantry for distribution.


  • Gift Card Donations- Growing Great Schools has partnered with the schools nurses and social workers of the West Hartford Public Schools to provide gift cards for groceries and other daily living expenses for families in need. All donations at this time will be directed to the purchase and distribution of these gift cards to help ease the burden in our community caused by the current pandemic.
