McKinley Weekly Update
Week of September 19th
Instruction at McKinley
Our instructional focus describes high impact instructional strategies that our teachers will collectively implement to make an impact on student learning. We looked to the IB Learner Profile to develop the following instructional focus.
Students understand and express ideas and information confidently and creatively in a variety of modes including speaking and writing.
We will start this school year by focusing on the speaking part of this statement with emphasis on collaborative conversations. This will then lead into writing. Our goal is that our students engage in rich and meaningful conversations. Here is a video that shows what this can look like. The pictures below show examples of conversations in McKinley classrooms.
Quality Indicators
During professional development, teachers looked to the speaking and listening standards to develop quality indicators.
Sentence Frames
First grade students reflect on their learning at the end of the day.
Collaborative Conversations
Second grade students engaged in collaborative conversations.
National Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month
September 15th marks the start of National Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month. It is held every year, and recognizes the important contributions, influence, and rich history of our Hispanic and Latino Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. Please join the McKinley Family in honoring these remarkable communities and their valuable contributions to our society.
