Weekly Update
Thursday, April 1st, 2021
Dear Families,
It seems incredible that we are now into the month of April. Many of us think of the Easter holiday as a time of renewal, hope and a shift to warm days and sunny skies. We truly hope that this weekend can be a time to unplug and recharge, to connect with your loved ones virtually, and to spend time with your children outside in the sunshine. At the time of publication, our understanding is that students will be returning to school on Tuesday :) We remain optimistic that face-to-face learning will continue to be possible, as we know that being with teachers and peers in person is what is best for kids. However, please rest assured that our Staff are ready, willing and able to continue to support each and every student in any scenario. (In an abundance of caution, we have still had students bring home their personal items.)
A big thank you to Mr. Don Myers, our Educational Assistant who manages the Food Sharing for our school: the fridge in which we store all of the snacks and milk broke down on the weekend. Mr. Myers quickly connected with the Food Sharing Administration and by the end of the day had secured a donation of a new (gently used!) refrigerator. We are truly grateful to be surrounded by such dedicated educators who take initiative and support our students in so many ways, both visible and behind the scenes.
We have a staffing update to share: Ms. Caverly finished her teaching assignment here on Wednesday, and we welcome Ms. Lauren Desarmia to our Staff. Ms. Desarmia will teach English to Immersion and Health to Mme Sedore's Class, Health to Ms. Marshall, Ms. Panter, Mr. Hearn and Mme Fox's classes, and Social Studies to Ms. Sills' class. We know that she will be a great addition to our team!
Tuesday will be a special day in LDSB, as we will be recognizing World Autism Day. Students and Staff are encouraged to "Light it Up Blue!" This is a wonderful opportunity to show our appreciation of the gifts and talents that persons with Autism share with our school community every day, and to demonstrate our understanding that students with Autism sometimes have to work very hard to express their thinking and to interpret the communication of others. Remember to wear some blue on Tuesday -- let's light it up, Hawks!!
We hope that you enjoy the photos of just some of the rich, authentic and engaging learning tasks that we have seen this week: our students continue to display amazing curiosity, perseverance and enthusiasm for learning, and our staff continue to set the bar high and provide challenging and motivating tasks and assignments. Bravo, les Hawks -- nous sommes tellement fiers de vous!
Have a safe and happy long weekend,
Mme Peart and Mrs. Davey
