Howling Coyote
Weekly Communication from Sunset Ranch: Feb 25th-March 1st
Welcome Back from President's Week Break!
I hope you enjoyed your week off with family and friends, in snow or in sun, resting or romping! We are excited to welcome our students back tomorrow for the last week of Trimester 2.
As usual, we have a lot happening. Some of the highlights include a new PBIS redemption structure that allows for more student choice and relationship-building, safety training for grades K-2, 3-4, and 5-6 that is appropriate for each grade level, and Read Across America Day with guest readers from across our great city. Looking ahead, we have conference week, a collection for Pennies for Patients, our 9th annual school wide panoramic photo, and the Scholastic Book Fair. In about 7 weeks time, our 3rd through 6th grade students will start their state testing and will show us what they know.
We have so many things to look forward to and celebrate. Thank you for your continuing support of the school and all of our students. Can't wait to see our Coyotes tomorrow!
Best,
Ms. Hopton, Principal
Our PBIS is getting a Make-Over!
There is more student choice embedded in the new redemption and a deeper connection between WHY a Pawsitive was earned leading to a privilege or tangible reward.
What will you notice?
- In classrooms, you should notice a 'teacher menu' with choices for students to select from when they earn 10 Green Pawsitives. This menu will look different from teacher to teacher and between grade levels. Some might be privileges like doing a math worksheet in marker, while others might be reading aloud to the class from a novel.
- On campus, you should notice students eating outside during lunch time, taking an extended recess, or participating in special events as they redeem Golden Pawsitives.
- All around Sunset Ranch, you should notice students being recognized for the big and little things they do that make them responsible and remarkable citizens and Coyotes!
- Grades 1-3 keep Market Day in the calendar. The kids just adore this activity!
- Kindergarten retains much of their redemption system as well.
- Prizes on the wheel are much more desirable!
- Certain days of the week will be busier than others. For example, students may only redeem for extended recess on certain days of the week, and lunch outside on others. We will share this information with students so they learn the routine.
