Snowmen at Night - donations needed

Join us for a drive-thru viewing of Nashua's own Snowmen at Night! Each classroom will be decorating its own snowman that will be on display the evening of Thursday, December 16th from 6-7. Families will remain in their cars and drive through the parking lot lined with snowmen created by teachers and students. At the conclusion, each child will be given a small treat to take on the road.

We are requesting donations to help make this night happen. Teachers will be in contact with parents regarding donations for decorating. Below is a spreadsheet that outlines what items are needed for each classroom. We are asking that these items be collected by Wednesday, December 8th to ensure that classrooms have time decorate. Thank you so much for your help!

Parents' Night Out

Staley High School will be offering a Parents Night Out. Please see the flyer below for details. If you are interested you can print the PDF form below and turn in to Staley at the address listed.

Student Arrival- Important!

Reminder: there is no student supervision before 9am on regular school mornings, and before 9:45am on Thursday mornings. Please do not drop your child off by car in front of the building. If your child will arrive at school by car, please follow our drop-off procedure for car riders. If your child is a walker, please ensure that the time they leave home does not have them arriving at school before our doors open. This is critical for student safety, to ensure that they are not waiting unsupervised, and is also important as the weather becomes colder so that students aren’t waiting outside for extended periods of time.

Resources for families (REPEATED ITEM)

Hello! My name is Meghan Shipley, School Community Resource Specialist. My main role at Nashua is to help families get connected to resources and outside agencies throughout the Kansas City area. If your family is in need of clothing, food, shelter, or other needs, please click on the link. It is a simple way to mark what you need and I will be able to reach out and offer services. This form will be left up all year long. Feel free to utilize this tool anytime you may be in need!

Portrait of a Graduate Competencies: November = Collaboration! (REPEATED ITEM)

Beginning this year, North Kansas City schools are implementing Portrait of a Graduate initiative. This program is designed to teach students different life skills that they can use to be successful. This month’s skill focuses on collaboration. Collaboration is demonstrated by working with one or more people to develop ideas and complete a task or project. Students will be making intentional decisions to use their strengths to work effectively as a team, seek others’ point of views and contributions, and positively contributing to conversations. Nashua will encourage collaboration by teaching classroom lessons, recognizing collaboration, and setting weekly action steps. Collaboration can be supported at home by talking about how to have respectful and positive conversations.

Reminders about Car Rider Dropoff (REPEATED ITEM)

  • Please ensure that your students are prepared to get out of the vehicle before you pull up to stop (ready to get out with backpacks, masks, water bottles, etc.)
  • If your child is reluctant to exit the vehicle, or if they are unprepared to exit the vehicle for any reason, please pull forward and to the left side while you resolve the issue, so that the line can continue to progress
  • For safety reasons, students should exit the car on the passenger side.
  • To avoid your child receiving a tardy and impacting their attendance, please attempt to complete drop-off before 9:12

Car Rider Line Procedure (REPEATED ITEM)

To ensure safety during arrival and dismissal we ask that all families adhere to the car rider procedure on the map below. Car riders will access their line from the westbound lane of 114th street by way of McGee street. The NKC Buses will access the bus loop by driving eastbound on 114th street.

In addition, if you are lining up early for dismissal, we ask that you not block driveways and mailboxes along 114th street or McGee street.

Thank you so much for your cooperation, as this helps for a smoother dismissal for everyone.
