WEEK 3:
Observing Martin Luther King Jr Day
WHY WE CELEBRATE MLK DAY
" Intelligence plus character = goal of true education"
King promoted the use of nonviolent means to bring an end to racial segregation in the United States. In 1964 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace for his efforts. He was assassinated in 1968.
Efforts to create a national holiday honoring King began soon after his assassination, although legislation for a federal holiday was not passed until 1983. The first nationwide observance of the holiday occurred in 1986.

January Exam Re-Takes
Several years have passed since we have had a January Regents Testing Session so I want to take the time to review a few items. Each student who has been registered should have received a letter in the mail outlining which exam(s) the student MAY need to take.
Please review General Guidelines:
- A score of a 65% and higher = passing to meet graduation requirements
- Due to COVID a score of a 50% - 64% qualifies for a Special Appeal to meet graduation requirements
- Some students who qualified for a special appeal (50%- 64%) may be interested in retaking the exam and are welcomed but not required to take the exam.
- NO ELECTRONICS of any form are allowed in testing areas
- Students need to be ON TIME as there are some restrictions on allowing students to enter testing sites late (please see your grade level administrator with questions)
- Prior to taking the exam students are encouraged to go to the bathroom as escorts are limited.
If you have any questions, your grade level administrators &/or school counselors would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
