November Kickoff Monthly Message: Parent Conferences Coming Our Way
Below is a slide deck around data and assessment that might be helpful for you before going into the Parent Conference session. It was from a Parent Night in November 2022, which includes on Slide 1 a live recording of the presentation.

Also, on a sidenote, the March Parent Conferences will be student-led; however, students may attend November conferences, but they will not be expected to lead them like the March ones.
Announcements for the Week
**Just a reminder that the long awaited Parent Night for 8th graders who are going to Monterey High School next year is this Thursday night, November 9th at 6PM. See flier further below. Also link to the Parent Square message sent a few weeks ago is below. This will help families who want their child to apply for a certain MHS program since applications are due in early December.

1) There will be no school on Friday, November 10th in observance of the Veterans Day holiday. We will show appreciation for all the sacrifices veterans have made at our morning community meetings throughout the week.
2) Parent Conferences will be the week of November 13-17. The entire school week will be early dismissal days at 12:50PM. Most after-school clubs will be cancelled that week. The designated evening conference session will be Tuesday, November 14th. Trimester 1 report cards will also be received at these conference sessions as well. Please reach out to your student's teacher if you have not yet signed up for a conference.
3) There will be a Monte Vista Movie Night at 5:45PM on Tuesday, November 14th with a brief general PTO meeting beforehand at 5PM. The movie feature Elementals will be playing on the big screen in the multi-purpose room that evening. The movie will wrap up by 7:30PM. Hope to see you there.
4) Grades 7-8 basketball team rosters have been composed based on students' interest. We will have a grades 7-8 girls team and grade 7 boys team and grade 8 boys team. Practices start this Monday, November 6th. Practices will take place from 2:30pm-3:30pm on Mondays and Thursdays. Games will begin in December and go through February. We will be playing in the MTJAL league, playing teams from within and outside our school district. A game schedule will be released soon!
5) Join the Virtual Conversation - It's quick. It's easy. It's confidential. Just drop a thought. Join MPUSD’s virtual conversation by submitting a confidential thought and/or rating other anonymous thoughts so the district can develop its 2024-2025 Local Control Accountability plan. This new process allows us to receive in-depth engagement, inclusive and diverse ideas, and quality insight that represent community perspectives. 6) Be sure to mark your calendars for the annual Elks Hoop Shoot free throw competition hosted by Elks lodges around the country. Winners of the local competitions are eligible to participate in the regional competitions and, if they keep winning, the national competition next spring. There are three groups for each boys and girls ages, 8-9, 10-11, and 12-13.

7) Soccer Team Season Awards Celebration will be Wednesday, November 15th. There will be a presentation of medals and a few speeches. The parent portion will be at 2PM-2:30PM in the cafeteria. There will be a fun activity for both teams after school that day (from 1PM-2PM) leading up to the parent portion , so we encourage the teams to stay after school.

PTO News
PTO General Meeting/ Monte Vista Movie Night in the Multipurpose Room - Tuesday, November 14th - We will be updating our members on how the year is going. Please join us for a 30 minute meeting before hand at 5pm and a fun movie afterwards at 5:45. The movie shown will be Elemental. Please bring snacks to enjoy. There will not be food for purchase.

We are currently looking for someone to fill an open Officer At Large position. The Officers at Large shall:
A. Attend monthly PTO Executive Board Meetings and as needed PTO General Meetings.
B. Act as liaison between PTO and all the Committees/Chairpersons.
C. Volunteer/support PTO sponsored event(s).

We welcome all kinds of crafts! The items bought to make the crafts can be reimbursed, with prior approval.
The crafts will be needed the week before our event, no later than Monday, November 27th.

Lost and Found - We will be cleaning out lost and found again on December 13th. Please check for any things your students have misplaced. We do not want to fill the racks again.
