DL Student Shoutouts - "One Word" for Kids

Write Score

The Narrative Write Score will be administered for all 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders on Tuesday, February 9th and Wednesday, February 10th. The Assistant Principal from your child's school will be in contact with you regarding this writing assignment.

Please note that a Write Score administration for 2nd graders will take place near the end of the school year.

Young Georgia Authors

The Young Georgia Authors (YGA) writing competition encourages students to develop enthusiasm for and expertise in their writing, provides a context to celebrate their writing successes, and recognizes student achievement in arts and academics.

YGA does not provide a prompt to which students must respond or provide any other boundaries to their genre choice or creativity beyond a 1900-word maximum length. Entries may include:

  • Short Stories

  • Poetry

  • Essays/Literary Criticism/Analysis

  • Journalism

  • Academic/Research Reports

  • Personal Narratives

  • Any Other Original Student Writing

Your child is encouraged to submit an original piece of writing to the assistant principal at your home school by 5:00pm on Monday, February 1, 2021. Entries submitted by this date will be entered in the school level competition based on grade. Entries will be evaluated on expression of ideas, language use, and unique perspective/voice. Please contact your home school's Assistant Principal with any questions or concerns.
