ORION MOVE: 2019 -2020
After a long a thoughtful process, the Redwood School Board held a meeting last Wednesday night to vote on the Superintendent's proposal regarding Planning for Our Future and right sizing our district. The Board voted unanimously to approve the proposal. Specifically for Orion this means:
PHASE 1 -
Effective the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year, Orion will move to the John Gill Campus. Orion will remain a Parent Participation Program. We will be a School of Choice Program operating on the John Gill Campus. We will share the site with the Mandarin Immersion Program. All current John Gill Non-Mandarin Immersion families, will be offered spots in the Orion Parent Participation Program if they decide to stay at John Gill.
PHASE 2 - Next Year
The District will officially change the Boundary for the John Gill School. The site will no longer be offering services as a neighborhood school site.
IMPORTANT DECEMBER MEETING – December 11th @ 6PM (Orion MUR)
The district will be coming to meet with our staff and families before we go out on Winter break to further explain the next steps during this transition period and to answer questions. I will let you know as soon as I have a confirmed date and time. I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO ATTEND THIS MEETING.
I know this has been a long and emotional process for all of us - parents, students, staff, District Leadership, and School Board Trustees. I am incredibly proud to be part of this wonderful community that has worked through this process together with care, concern and grace. As we move into the implementation and transitioning plan, we will undoubtedly continue to have lots of questions, feel anxious and hear rumors. Please know that I am always available to hear concerns and answer questions. My door is always open! I encourage all of us to be patient and to stay fully engaged in the process. By continuing to listen to and support one another, the strength of our community will grow even stronger!
