Historical Memory in Fiction and Film: now a stand-alone course!
MWF 11:30-12:20
TLC, DAC, WAC
Please note that Dr. Weierman's EN 190 is now running as a stand-alone course.
Course Description:
History is a story we tell ourselves about who we are. In this course, students will consider the overlapping and mutually reinforcing narratives of history and fiction, as well as the role of storytelling in the formation of public memory. We will read texts by Sherman Alexie, Art Spiegelman, Linda Hogan, and others. We will also consider "the history that movies make" and produce a class film project for the Reel American History web site hosted at Lehigh University (check out the Black Hawk Down entry, created by my students in a previous class).
