Wear a PINK shirt on Wed. Feb. 22
As many of you know, Pink Shirt Day is being held this year on February 22, 2023.
Recognized worldwide since it began in 2007, Pink Shirt Day is an opportunity to promote healthy relationships, respect diversity and take a stand against bullying. We all share a responsibility to understand how bullying negatively impacts individuals, families and organizations, and how to be an active bystander when we witness bullying.
Pink Shirt Day encourages Albertans to be inclusive, welcoming and supportive with students, colleagues, clients, friends and families. Having a strong focus on social‑emotional learning and the development of healthy relationships are some of the best ways to create welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environments.
Please join us in wearing a pink shirt on February 22, 2023, and showing your commitment to the importance of promoting healthy relationships and creating environments that are welcoming, caring, respectful, safe and free of bullying behaviours.
Additional resources are accessible at:
- Safe and caring schools

Young Authors Conference - Sat. Apr. 15, 2023
Each year over 400 selected students in grades 4 to 9 from both Elk Island Public Schools and Elk Island Catholic Schools are invited to spend the day with a variety of well-known children and young adult authors, illustrators and graphic artists—working with them and learning the tricks of the trade.
Any SWH students who are interested in attending the YAC Conference on Saturday April 15th, please come see Mrs. Shiloff or Mrs. Burton in the office by March 1st. Students who show special interest or aptitude in the areas of writing and illustration will have an opportunity to attend the conference.
Canteen Volunteers and Menu
Volunteering for shifts in our SWH Canteen with Mrs. Braun is an excellent way to help prepare our students for the world of work. These opportunities help students build confidence, increase skill range, and feel successful as they work towards entering post-secondary or the workforce.
Also being served on Thursdays is $3 pizza slices! Pick from pepperoni, cheese and ham & pineapple.

EIPS Returning Student Registration 2023-2024 is open from February 1 - 28, 2023
All current EIPS families must complete the Returning Student Registration form to register students for 2023-24. This is also your only opportunity to request a non-designated school, if applicable. The form is available through the PowerSchool Parent Portal and must be submitted by Feb. 28, 2023. If you have trouble with the Parent Portal or the form, or if you have questions about senior high registration, reach out to your child’s school for assistance.
EIPS French Immersion Public Engagement Survey
Dear EIPS French Immersion families:
Thank you to everyone who attended last night’s public consultation about French Immersion programming. As you know, the Division is consulting school families to explore ways to enhance French Immersion programming, address enrolment pressures and increase retention at the junior high and senior high levels.
If you couldn’t make the meeting, that’s OK. You can still submit input by completing the online survey. The survey is anonymous and takes about five to 10 minutes to complete.
Survey closes February 21
The survey is also available at eips.ca
To help provide feedback, below are some background documents:
· Frequently Asked Questions: French Immersion Public Engagement
· PowerPoint Presentation: French Immersion engagement Feb. 7, 2023
· What We Heard Report: French Immersion Engagement No. 1
For more information, or to subscribe for updates, visit eips.ca.
Once all the input is submitted, Western Management Consultants, the contracted public consultation company, will use the feedback gathered from the session and survey to help the Division develop possible solutions and inform the next public engagement session.
In June 2023, EIPS will present the Board of Trustees with a report about the French Immersion engagement efforts. Any Board-approved changes will take effect in the 2024-25 school year at the earliest. Before making a decision, the EIPS Board will review all relevant data and the feedback gathered through the engagement efforts. As always, EIPS will keep school families updated as the process progresses.
Sincerely,
Elk Island Public Schools
