Welcome our New Executive Director!

Preferred Properties, Inc. would like to welcome Kendra Smith as its new Executive Director. Smith’s resume includes nearly 10 years’ experience in real estate development, urban planning, housing policy, community engagement and community organizing. Prior to relocating to Toledo in January, she served as Senior Planner for the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) focusing on fair housing, economic development and land use planning across the seven county Chicagoland region. Most recently Smith served as the Annual Campaign Manager for the Toledo Museum of Art, overseeing individual giving and membership operations. Other experience includes development and management of $20 million in affordable housing units for Chicago neighborhoods and coordination of city housing programs in Cleveland’s St. Clair Superior neighborhood.

Smith earned a Master’s degree in Urban Studies with a focus on neighborhood and community development from Cleveland State University. She also holds degrees and certifications from Ohio University, La Universidad Pública de Navarra in Pamplona, Spain and Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Locally she serves on the boards of MLK Kitchen for the Poor, the Toledo Design Center, and UpTown Association, Inc.

Cha. Cha. Changes

There have been changes in regards to Preferred Properties Management Team. As most of you are aware Mary Liggins retired at the end of October. After 21 years of fantastic service to this company, she is now allowed to sit at home and relax. With this change, Kaitlin Ruppel, previous Occupancy Specialist, and Office Manager has taken her place as Property Manager of Preferred Properties. Along with this Ja'Mai Bell has come on board the PM team as the new Occupancy Specialist, and Ms. Melissa Cassidy has joined our team as the new Office Manager.
