Estacada School District Update
February 15, 2018
Dear Estacada School District Families-
As a district and as a community we are grieving for the staff, students, and families in Florida where yesterday's school shooting has taken the lives of at least 17 people.
Our thoughts are with those impacted at this time, and our thoughts are also on the wellbeing and safety of our students, as they struggle to make sense of this tragedy. Please know that the safety and wellbeing of our students is the district's first priority each and every day. Our staff and administrators have proactive trainings, drills, and emergency routines that are practiced regularly and taken very seriously. We do drills to ensure that if a crisis occurs, our students and staff have the resources and knowledge to act safely.
We are also working to create a culture of kindness, support, and inclusivity in each of our buildings. Our students are supported by counselors, who are also making themselves available for students to discuss this recent event. If you have questions on how to have these dicussions with your children, please contact your child's school, or read more here, and here. We have an anonymous tip line available to students at http://safeoregon.com/report-a-tip/ that is monitored daily. Please take this opportunity to talk with your children about the importance of speaking up if they become aware of a possible threat that could impact students. Telling a trusted adult could save lives.
We are so grateful to our communities for the tireless work you all do to support our students and our schools. During these times and in light of recent events, your support is appreciated more than ever.
Sincerely,
Ryan Carpenter
Superintendent
Estacada School District
Queridos Padres,
Sinceramente,
Ryan Carpenter
Superintendent
Estacada School District
Staff Support
Student Learning
Students regularly practice fire, earthquake, and lockdown drills. Students also learn regularly about what they can do to be a safe citizen. We encourage students to report concerning behavior of other students at http://safeoregon.com/report-a-tip/, and support our students through the employment of counselors and a psychologist.
Regular Training
Staff are all informed of an extensive plan and protocol on all potential emergency situations. Additionally, the district hosts regular events where police, fire, administrators, and support staff all get together to run through a different emergency situation scenario. This ensures that staff and community resources all are prepared to work together seamlessly, regardless of the situation.
