Mrs. Hladun's Tidings

What a wonderful start to the 2019-20 school year! It was toasty, but we made the best of it, and there were smiles, fun, and new friendships to be made! If you like to ask your child for information about their day at school, a few questions to ask might be:

~ what games did you play to get to know your classmates?

~ what happens when you make good choices at school?

~ what happens when you make mistakes at school?

~ do I need to look at/sign a calendar/agenda/exit ticket every night?

~ who are you sitting with at lunch? What do you talk about?

~ what new games are you playing at recess or in PE?

~ are you enjoying the snacks and lunch that you are having?

We've heard such wonderful feedback from students, families and staff about the start of the year - it's going to be a fantastic one!

Starting Monday - all Adults Need Visitor Badges!

A reminder that starting on Monday, all adults who come onto campus must get a visitor's badge in the office. Miss Sandra and Mrs. Hladun will be at the gate to provide gentle reminders and Miss Tricia and Miss Pam will be ready to go with stickers and sign in sheets in the office! If you are a regular and registered volunteer, you can grab your lanyard instead of a sticker.

Thank you for supporting this policy so we can ensure we know who is on campus and promote student safety.

Back to School Night (BTSN)

Parents/Guardians of grade 2-5 students are encouraged to join us - meet your child's teacher(s), and learn about the year ahead of us. This is designed to be a parent's only event, although we do plan to offer limited supervision on the playground for school aged children if your require it. Students should not plan to attend the presentations with their parents.

There are two parts to Back to School Night.

Part 1: Parent Info Night (hosted by Mrs. Hladun)

Join us in the MPR from 5:30-5:50 pm. Come learn about our site priorities and goals for the year!

Part 2: Classroom Visits (hosted by LCES Teachers)

There will be two identical presentations in each classroom so that you can meet more than one teacher. Please report directly to your child's classroom for presentation 1 or 2.

~ presentation 1 from 6-6:35 pm (note that 5th grade will be in the MPR)

~ presentation 2 from 6:40-7:15 pm (note that 5th grade will be in the MPR)

Each teacher has his/her own unique presentation style. Your teacher may reach out to you with more details about the format of their presentation.

The following classrooms will be open from 5:50-6:45 for you to visit:

~ Mrs. Brothers' and Mrs. Patterson's science classrooms

~ Mrs. Adams' music classroom

~ Mrs. Derry's speech classroom

~ Ms. Sauer's RSP classroom

Please be sure to visit the PTC, WatchDOGS and STAR information tables! There will also be Live Scan services available - see details for that below!

School Supplies

A reminder that supplies are always much appreciated, but never required.

Live Scan Service at Back to School Night & PTC Playground Night!

Per our district policy, in order to chaperone a field trip or to work with students without direct supervision from a teacher, volunteers need to be LiveScanned and have a current TB test on file. A LiveScan is good in any school (elementary, middle & HS) in WPUSD and does not expire, so you can take care of it now and never need to worry about it again!

Sunset Notary is providing the LiveScan service on our campus during Back To School Night to our families for a great price. How awesome is that - it's less expensive, no appointment is needed & there's no driving around! We appreciate their service!!!

Next Steps:
1. print and fill out the LiveScan form: http://bit.ly/WPUSDLiveScan (copies will be available on site, too)
2. come to campus during Back to School Night (BTSN) or Playground night and look for the Sunset Notary booth

- 2nd-5th grade BTSN is on Thursday, 8/22; Sunset will be here from 4:30-7 pm

- Playground Night is on Friday, 8/30; Sunset will be here from 5-7:30 pm
3. bring your payment (see details below)
4. bring your driver's license or state issued ID

The DOJ charges $32 to process a LifeScan and Sunset Notary charges $17 for their processing fee. Sunset Notary can take cash ($49), check ($49) or debit/credit ($51)

Online Emergency Cards & First Day Paperwork

We have received feedback that the online Parent Portal to complete Emergency Cards was not super user friendly for some families. We'll share that feedback with our district office with the hope that the process continues to improve as the district works through the 'kinks.'

Students who did not have an emergency card completed can expect a paper emergency card and other materials to come home next week. Students may not be able to use school's computers until the cards are completed, as part of the Emergency Card process includes an agreement with the District's Internet Use policy.

Spirit Wear

Our amazing PTC has launched an online spirit wear store - you can order any time, all year long, and all items are direct shipped to you! There are many design options and plenty of color and shirt options to pick from! Check it out: www.lincolncrossingspiritwear.com

High Temperatures, Air Quality and Recess

It will be a warm start to the year. We will be monitoring the temperature and air quality carefully each day. In the event that the air is deemed 'unhealthy for sensitive groups,' we will make an indoor play space available for students. If the air quality is in the 'unhealthy' or higher range, we will offer only an indoor recess. If your child is in a sensitive group, please be in touch with the office and your child's teacher so he can best support him/her.

Parking, Drop Off & Pick Up

It will be very congested the first days and weeks of school. Please visit our website to view a map that identifies appropriate areas for parking and areas where you can safely drop your child off/pick your child up.

We provide supervision from 7:55-8:10 am and again from 2:40-3 pm (1:40-2 on Mondays). We find it is less congested before 8 am and after 2:50 pm.

This year, you'll see some new signage out and more student greeters ready to help your child out of the car. We ask you to keep two thing in mind - stay in your lane and pull all the way forward to make drop off/pick up as easy as possible!
