I hope you were creative and found some way to entertain yourself this weekend. I considered building a canoe or some other transportation device that floats in water!
We have exciting news at Bethany that I wanted to be sure you hear about. You may have noticed that a new face joined our fifth grade team last week! Michaela Bjorkman is our new fifth grade teacher. Please join us in the library right after school to meet her and put a name to a face!
I know that you have been hard at work preparing for conferences that are just around the corner. Our parents have lots of data at their fingertips through parent portal. Knowing this, I want to encourage you to think about how you will structure your conferences so that they become an opportunity to form a partnership between home and school, rather than a one way conversation. Think about what the data tells us (a part of the picture) and what our students' evidence of learning tells us, then talk with parents about how you can work together to help students experience the most success. Also, please sent a note to parents prior to conferences asking them to let you know if there are any specific items they would like to talk about during conferences. This will help you be prepared to address their needs. This can be a simple statement in your grade level newsletter. Finally, consider utilizing a thinking partner to practice parent conferences ahead of time that you think may not go well so that you are confident going into the conference.
Thanks for all you do, every day!
