A New Year has begun
Woodcrest families,
The doors of Woodcrest Spanish Immersion Elementary School opened for the 2021-2022 school year yesterday. It was wonderful! Each student made it to their classes without issue. Inside the building, staff worked with each child who needed kind eyes and encouragement on their first day of this school year.
There were many excited interactions between students who hadn’t seen each other in months. I watched two 2nd graders as they approached their classroom lock eyes, stare at each other for a long moment, wave, then take each other by the arm and walk into class together. It is good to be together again.
Over the course of the next few days our daily arrival and dismissal protocol will be refined and tweaked. Please remember that the front doors will open each day at 8:55 a.m. Please review the following information about Arrival and Dismissal procedures and thank you for helping us make this smooth and efficient process for all.
Students who are dropped-off/picked-up by parents
- For arrival, remain in your vehicles until 8:55 a.m. Walk your children to the sidewalk where they will enter the building with staff.
- For dismissal, students will exit door 1 starting at 3:43 p.m.
Kindergarten families with numbers 1-75, please park in the parking lot along 76th Ave. NE next to the basketball court. Please stand on the sidewalk, nearest the school, holding your student pick-up number. Staff will record the number and your child will be notified by their homeroom teacher to exit the building. Your child will meet you at the sidewalk.
All other Kindergarten and 1st grade families will use the main parking lot. Please stand on the sidewalk holding your student pick-up number. The line will start near the front door of the building along the small playground fence. Staff will record the number and your child will be notified by their homeroom teacher to exit the building. Your child will meet you there.
All 2nd grade through 4th grade families will use the Horseshoe parking lot (labeled as the staff parking lot). Staff will record the number and your child will be notified by their homeroom teacher to exit the building. Your child will meet you at your car. There is no need to park your car. Please follow the flow of cars. Once in horseshoe please pull forward as far as possible and wait in your car.
Families with children in Kindergarten/1st Grade and with siblings in 2nd through 4th grade, please use the Horseshoe parking lot. Staff will record the number and your child will be notified by their homeroom teacher to exit the building. Your child will meet you at your car.
Students who ride buses to and from to school:
- Students are to wear a mask each day to and from school while riding a school bus.
- Staff will guide students to their school bus at the end of the day.
- Staff will meet students at the bus when they arrive to school.
- Staff will guide students to their school bus at the end of the day.
Students who walk to and from school:
- Staff will be available to students to ensure safe travel to and from school.
We are excited to be learning at school and want to keep all of our students healthy. Please remember that students are required to wear face masks at school each day. This will continue while Anoka County COVID-19 infection rates remain high (above 100 cases per 100,000 residents).
Watch for this Woodcrest newsletter each Wednesday during the school year. This is where you will find updates on learning, important information for families, and need to know items for upcoming events.
With gratitude and excitement for the 2021-2022 school year,
John Franke
Principal
Voluntary, free COVID-19 testing
Voluntary COVID-19 testing will be offered every other week at Spring Lake Park Schools. Students whose families wish them to complete a test may stop by the health office in their school building on scheduled test days to pick up a test kit. Saliva tests will be taken home and completed online via Zoom with a Vault supervisor. Test kits will then be returned to the health office the next day for shipment to the lab. Late test kits cannot be accepted. Instructions on how to login to Zoom are included with each test kit. The first test day is Monday, September 13.
Please contact the Lead Nurse, Becca Williams, with any questions.

The Woodcrest Spanish Immersion newsletter will only be distributed electronically this year. If you would like a printed copy sent home with your student each week, please contact Yesica Garay Munoz.
