Sunset House Keeping Notes
December 3rd-7th
I Choose Moffat County....
Message from Hafey
It's time to up our game....get tighter...plan deeper than ever - exercise the best practices and work to mastery. We must provide Explicit, strong instruction - I DO....then move into guided practice - WE DO...then release our students with direct, meaningful practice time - YOU DO...repeating and moving through this process.
We must start building stamina....the challenge I pass on to you to pass on to your students is....Once you have given a task....you let them be - become untouchable for 5-7 minutes (K-2nd grade) and 7-12 minutes (3rd-5th grade). This means, set a timer and allow students to problem solve...In order to do this - be sure that your I DO and WE DO processes were strong and your instructions to release are strong...
You may not opt out of this challenge! Let me know if you have any questions...
We are making our next move...
I Never Said it Would Be Easy
I Only Said it Would Be Worth It!
I believe in you all....

Celebration
So, I will be celebrating with last year's 3rd Graders (this years 4th graders) and last year's 4th Graders (this year 5th graders) during the following times:
3rd Grade: at 9:00am (during Misty's plan)
4th Grade: at 10:00am (during Seely/Zimmerman's plan)
So, 4th and 5th grade teachers please be aware, there will be a minor disruption, however, I feel it is important!
So, you ask.....What are we celebrating? We are taking a moment to recognize our friends' performance on last years PARCC! There was nice growth in these 2 grade levels and I'd like our friends and teachers know how much we appreciate this work and their stamina, dedication, and diligence in learning and assessing on their year's learning! I will bring in a small treat and lots of praise!

Predictability predicts ability...
Professional Develpment Day with Mel....
Next Steps...Be sure to add...
**Setting the Scene - building schema/background knowledge before ALL stories...
**K-2 Teachers: Be sure to continue the use of Heggerty for ALL students....
**Vocabulary - I want to see repetition - gestures daily.....(Frayer Model, Graphic Organizer, Movie Scripts, Illustrations...)
**Graphic Organizers added to Whole Group Reading - to help pull the story components out
Classroom Rotations/Centers...
**Anchor chart that demonstrates Center/Rotation Management
**Kid Friendly Instructions for each of your rotations
**Centers that are meaningful.....if you have a DEAR time at the end of the day - this should NOT be a rotation
**Centers that are built around PA, Phonics, Vocabulary, Fluency, Comprehension, Response to Reading, and/or Oral Language Development - we don't have time to have 'fluff' activities to fill the time
If you have questions.....please come see me....I will be looking for these components as I walk through within the next few weeks. Be sure that systems are in place for full implementation after Christmas Break - no exceptions.
Mel will be back at Sunset on Wednesday, December 12!
