West Word
An Update from Perkiomen Valley Middle School West
A Word From Mr. Creeden
The first week was busy with anticipation, excitement, activity, and preparation. We were so happy to see our students on the first day😄. Please see some photos taken of students around the building on the first day and this week as the school year began. We were busy informing students about the morning and lunchtime procedures as we prepare for a great year. We had our 8th grade class meeting where we go into more detail about how each student can be West Strong this school year. I shared a West Strong announcement with all students on the first day of school. Please see this announcement below. Lastly, all staff and students did an excellent job practicing five safety drills this past week. The emergency preparedness drills we practices were the Hold, Secure, Shelter, Lockdown, and Evacuate drills. For more information about these drills please visit https://iloveuguys.org/The-Standard-Response-Protocol.html.

What's Up @ West
Welcome back!
Learning Stations
As an introduction to physical science, eighth grade students in
Kathy Chesen's classes participated in an innovative activity. In small groups, students cycled through a number of different stations. Each station had a physical science task and a social task. Learning stations get students to focus on small chunks of learning which keeps them from getting overwhelmed. This focus helps scaffold skills one at a time and leads to deeper learning. The children have to get up and move, which not only adds variety to the class but also helps the learning process.

The sales ends September 11th. Orders will be delivered to the school 2 - 3 after the end of the sale.
A portion of all sales will go back to Home & School.
Contact Jodi Lieb with any questions - jodilieb@verizon.net.
Lunches @ The Beginning of the School Year
Before students choose where they would like to sit at lunch in the beginning of the school year we would like to communicate the behavioral expectations as well as have them become familiar with each other. For the first three weeks of the school year all 6th grade students will sit with their homerooms during lunch time. All 7th and 8th grade students will sit with their homerooms during lunch time for the first week of school.
At the conclusion of the three weeks for 6th grade students and the first week for 7th and 8th grade students, students will be able to choose to sit at any table with friends in the cafeteria. This will be their assigned lunch table for the remainder of the semester.
