August 2013 Report
Angie Miller, Library Media Specialist
Patti Bogert, Assistant Library Media Specialist
This August, in the heat, we unshelved (& then reshelved!) all of the books in the library in order to open up the space and create more seating and work areas for students. A Graphic Novel section was added, as well as an Oversized Book Area, and a Student Resource Center (with textbooks from classrooms and work supplies like tape, rulers, markers, etc.),
A new website (www.interlakeslibrary.org) is now up and running. Students and staff can find databases, local libraries, and other resources there. The library also has a Twitter account and Pinterest boards for students to follow. Scoop. It Boards that curate professional articles on Literacy, Math & Science, Languages & the Arts, and Technology for teachers to access are also available. Library Guides are being formed with teachers and shown to students--currently you can see Ms. Brusseau's Current Events Library Guide that is up and running now that it has been presented to the 9th grade class.
We have been beginning to develop a Digital Sandbox, where students and staff will be able to sign out technology. Currently, we have laptops, headphones, Kindles, digital video recorders, and power cords available. We are hoping to grow our collection as they year progresses!
Below are a few before and after pictures from this summer.
