Mission Statement
News from the Principal
Dear St. John Families,
As you know we have been anticipating Mrs. Hixson’s absence from school as she takes time away for her maternity leave.
We are happy and blessed to have Mrs. Stacey Warden joining us to serve as Mrs. Hixson’s long term substitute during her maternity leave. Mrs. Warden is a parishioner at Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church who has previous experience substitute teaching at a variety of grade levels at St. John Nepomuk, St. Charles and other metro area Catholic schools.
Mrs. Warden will begin shadowing in the classroom during the week of December 11. We currently have Mrs. Hixson’s leave scheduled from January 4, 2018 through mid-March.
Thank you again for your support and please join me in welcoming Mrs. Warden to our school. Please keep Mrs. Hixson and her family in your prayers.
Sincerely,
Natalie Johnson
Principal
It's Book Fair Time!
Dear Parents and Families:
Reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Here’s what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading:
- Set the example. Let children see you read.
- Have a collection of books in your home. Update this collection routinely to keep up with changing tastes and reading skills.
- Support our school’s Book Fair. Allow your children to choose their own books to read.
Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.
Book Fair dates: December 7-15
Shopping hours: Each day after school until 4:00 pm
Special activities: We will be open after the Christmas Program!
If you are unable to attend the Fair in person, we invite you to visit our online Book Fair at scholastic.com/fair. Our Online Fair is available from December 5 to December 11.
We look forward to seeing you and your family at our Book Fair! Remember, all purchases benefit our school.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Natalie Johnson

Service Project
Hello, my name is Charlie. I am working on my St. Katherine Drexel patch for American Heritage Girls. I am organizing a service project, and was wondering if you would like to help? I am collecting toothbrushes, toothbrush cases, toothpaste, and socks for Positive Tomorrows, the homeless school in Oklahoma City. The amount of students changes day-to-day the most students they have ever had is 74. Your donations would help the children and are greatly appreciated. You can drop them off in the drop boxes located by the office and in the middle school hallway. I will pick up donated items Friday, December 21st.
Thank you for donating!

Middle School Parent Meeting
Dear Middle School Parents,
In accordance with the guidelines set forth by the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, St. John will be hosting a mandatory meeting on Tuesday evening December 12th at 6:30 p.m. for all middle school parents. The purpose of this meeting is to present the Life Lines Suicide Prevention curriculum and the Heartline Program to be taught here at St. John in the coming weeks and throughout the year. These programs are designed to give students the information they will need about the warning signs of suicide that they may see in friends or in themselves. These lessons provide students with information about school and community resources that are available to young people and the best ways for students to obtain the help they may need for a friend or themselves.
For 8th Grade students, the Life Lines curriculum is a four-part program which will be taught by Mrs. Hargis and Mrs. Heard during the regularly scheduled 8th grade Religion classes. Students in 7th grade will have two lessons from the Life Lines curriculum. 6th Grade will have a presentation from Heartline Oklahoma in the spring. Both Mrs. Hargis and Mrs. Heard have attended full training sessions for the program provided by the Archdiocese. They will both be present for each of the classes.
We will have the lessons available at this meeting for you to view as they will be presented in the classroom. If you have questions about this curriculum, please do not hesitate to contact me.
In Christ,
Natalie Johnson

POSTER 3: Do Not Be Afraid
"Do not be afraid" is a common refrain used throughout biblical stories and one that we need to hear over and over again. In our world today, and in a world that we fear and imagine is possible in the future, we need to be reminded not to be afraid.
Here in this poster, we have the angel Gabriel coming to bring this important message to Mary., as Mary's life changes forever with the news of the child that will be born, Jesus.
Scripture found in poster: Luke 1:26-38 and Psalm 89:1
